Low Budget Build

Thread Starter
Hello overclock community!

A friend of mine is asking for a low budget build, and I am still a novice in PC building for the most part. The bottom line is very very simple: I need an AMD build that is at or under $520.

The only special notes are that he really wants a Corsair PSU and Case.

Thank you all in advance, I appreciate it!

Any reason why it has to be an AMD build? Also do you know what Corsair case? The price really ranges and would need to be known for the build.

He wants Mantle for Star Citizen so it looks all nice, and yes I do understand that Mantle isn't necessarily limited AMD. His orders, just following through.

AMD APU A10-7850k would go a long ways. Or lately seeing 6350 and a decent GPU. My brother has the APU and he says BF4 runs great. He is used to Xbone so it is relative to that.

Understood, and thank you. I might end up going with a separate GPU since star citizen isn't exactly weak on your PC.

If people keep the components coming, I'll compile a pcpartpicker list.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($109.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock 990FX Extreme3 ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard ($89.25 @ Newegg)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($63.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB Video Card ($102.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Thermaltake Urban 21 BOM ATX Mid Tower Case ($44.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Rosewill Capstone 450W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $526.18

A little over budget, but this will work wonders. HD7770 is a little old, but GPU's are easily changed out. Sorry, no corsair PSU or case. The PSU's at this pricepoint are garbage on the Corsair front, the cases arent much better.
Any questions just ask.

WOW! Excellent stuff. Thank you very much!

If anyone else has anything bring it forward it still won't hurt! But 6 bucks shouldn't break the bank for him.

Remember not to let him convince you to change to a Corsair CX430. That PSU is terrible compared to the one I picked.

Pretty tough with that budget and requirements. Hopefully he plans on playing that game at 1080p or lower, I don't know much about it's benchmarks, but from a quick read it seems like it's Crysis 3 like so I doubt he will be able to go above medium settings with this build. Supposedly mantle is a great help and the game engine is highly AMD optimized both cpu and gpu wise, but still I don't think a build of this cost will be getting playable fps at high settings.

Yeah that is definitely all new to me. It's never crossed my mind to break open a PSU and see what's inside, primarily because I wouldn't know what I'm looking at. I'll have to keep that in mind before I get too brand happy.

Yeah he's just getting into gaming so he'll be playing smaller games with Star Citizen being the most graphically intense. He should be just fine at medium settings.
