6GB 780 needs competition lol.

sorry youre missing the point, most sales of this card will be to "gamers" who think they need more fps even at 1080p, that was my posts point. Yes 8gb could be used really well for some rendering and compute markets though.

I just ordered the 290 Tri-X today sozo.gif Got fed up of waiting

I might just receive the order and not unbox it, until I see prices. I only paid £300 so hopefully this is quite a bit more expensive

By "additional heatsink" I meant this part:
Quote:
Another new feature of the cooler on this new model is a PCB Component heat spreader. Along the edge of the card the PCB is extended and one of the copper layers left exposed. An additional heatsink mounted directly to this copper layer allows heat absorbed into the PCB from the GPU and other components to be transferred to the heatsink and cooled by the airflow. This feature alone can reduce core temperature by several degrees.

You can apparently mount some kind of other heatsink to the heatsink that is already installed on the card.

mounting an additional heatsink to the existing heatsink....why dont they just make the existing heatsink already have it on there lol. Or is it already on there and the article makes it sound like you have to do it manually?

Sapphire throws a fit just from changing TiM along with their new high end R9 290 using only uses 6 power phases for the whole card makes that unlikely. I think you better find a genie if you want that wish to come true. Sapphire seems to be aiming at low end overclockers and as a by-product of that, miners. They take reference boards and replace a few components and add a 50% chance of a poor TiM job. I don't see that strategy changing anytime soon as it seems to be working well for them.

If your looking for a quiet card, you have about 50% chance of that happening going by the ten I've ordered. All hit 1040/1500 at stock clocks, just half run terribly hot even with the fans cranked up to 85%. The other half run around 65C at <=60% fan speed under load.

sapphire really did place a foot in their mouth when they decided that even looking at their cooler funny will void the warranty.

I think you got it backwards. Having the extra wide PCB with tons of power phases would give people reason to do LN2 cooling. The reason nobody will bother with LN2 is because the card lacks those features. If it had them, people would find good reason to throw an LN2 pot on there.
people still use reference cards for ln2 and they have even less features than this card lol.
