help..High idle temp on r9 290 with 2 screens - Page 2

Yea.. it is normal. Apparently lower memory clocks will cause flickering problems with multi monitor setups. Now that I think about it, I had this issue with my 7950's in crossfire when under air while hooked up to my three monitors. Always thought it was mainly the top card sucking air from the bottom one. Putting them under water there is only about a 5 degree difference. Now they idle in the 28-34 degree range.

oh i see, so i would have to manualy change it, i thnk ill just raise the fan speed.
I should be getting my h50 and my kraken g10 so hopfully that will help with the temps. Im comming from a long line of nvidia cards so im still trying to get used to it. I am kinda worried that I made the wrong choice but I got the r9290 for $320 so it was good price anyway.

I think you'll be happy once you get a AIO cooler on it. I cool both my cards with AIO'S and have low idle temps and full load temps in the 45 ish celsius range at 1150 mhz. High 40's low 50 ' s at 1200 plus. They are 7950's, but I've seen people get pretty good results with 290's and 290x's. Just find some good heatsinks for the vrm's on your card and a fan to blow across them if you are gunna do the AIO cooler and it should work great.

Power limit won't cause it to crash, it'll just cause it to throttle the clock speeds.
What fan speed are you running though? Are you monitoring it at all? I had a reference card for a while and temps were reasonable at 60% fan speed for most games without getting obnoxiously loud. You shouldn't need to raise the power limit at stock clocks but go for it and see how it works out.
