hey guys,

I already have a C: D: an external drive E; and DVD drive F: When I connected my USB drive it showed up as drive J: Curious I checked my system and found that i somehow acquired three removable hard drives in my system G: H: and I:
I dont have a card reader or or partitions that these could be. Any idea what these are and can I delete them?
Sorry if this really a windows question.

Do you have card readers / USB hub on your monitor? Is the monitor plugged into a USB port?

How about posting a screen shot from Disk Manager showing the drive and info?

No card readers, I do have a powered USB hub connected to the back of my computer but it only has keyboard, mouse and LED lights connected to it. Monitor is connected via dual link DVI port.
I am away from home right now, and will get a screen shot when I get home later.

Here we go. I unhooked my external drive and reconnected, and the drives numbers changed a bit but you can see removable drive numbers D: G: & H:

have you tried disconnecting the hub, and plugging in everything directly? Uninstall / reinstall of drivers?

Still would like to see a screen shot of Disk Manager (Control Panel / Administrative tools / Computer Management / Disk Management)

Like so:

Also go into Control Panel / Device Manager / Universal serial bus controllers):

screenshot it..

Right click on each USB entry and go through the properties... what do you see?

I disconnected the hub and connected everything directly, no change. Here’s the screen shot for my disc management

I checked properties on the USB connections in Device manager, going down the list they are as follows;

Not seeing anything obvious.... it has to be coming from somewhere, typically card readers (either built in to the case, or external)... which you state you don't have. I don't have a clue....

Are you at the latest BIOS revision for your board? Have you checked to see if there are newer USB drivers?

If nothing else, you can just disable them in windows... and they will go away. Not the cleanest option, but harmless. And that would let you test to see if they affect anything.

Im back a couple on Bios, other than this my system has been running pretty well and didnt see a need to. I can check for USB drivers first.
It neither of those work how do I disable them in windows?
