Can someone explain this?

Cant play BF4 with my MSI GAMING R9 290 but can with my GTX 765M? .....

My specs are:
ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME Z
CORSAIR 16GB 1600MHZ (I got some bsod with these)
MSI GAMING R9 290
I7 2600K at 4.5 Ghz

The CPU is at 40 load in BF4 and you can see the GPU is .... 0 - 100 % all the time..

Go check the R9 290/290x club, I think they report that MSI AB doesn't properly monitor Hawaii cards.

It has. Use the latest beta, prevents clock-throttling when monitoring.

Did it work out for you?

R9 290 Bottlenecking my i7 2600K? - take more than a r9 290 unless your setup or card was at fault thumb.gif

Disable HT for your 2600k, then see what your fps does. Might work. I'm on a 2600k and r9 290 myself, and can only play decently with it disabled.

I uninstalled MSI afterburner completely. It does work, and I still have HT on. However, this is very odd, because I t used to work just fine. Anyway. I will do a further stress test and let you know for sure if its fixed.

Thanks

Pre 3.0 beta 18 (or was it 16?) of AB uses a method to monitor the card that causes tiny "lock-ups", which causes the usage to drop along with the clocks.

I have a extremely hard time thinking a i7 2600k bottlenecks a r9 290 in bf4. I have i5 3570k at 4.8ghz with a r9 290 and play bf4 on custom settings, with mantle on 64 player MP I get like 110-150 fps. I get some wierd fps dips some times but thats probably because I run win7 instead of 8. The i7 2600k should be better for bf4 because it has HT and bf4 use more cores. I would say a clocked i7 2600k can handle two 290 even at 1080p in bf4.
