fixed for ya

I wasn't entirely serious about that statement, but there is some truth to it.

I'd take FXAA over jaggies any day. SMAA even more so. SMAA S2x (which is essentially MSAAx2 with SMAA applied to it) is so efficient and looks great. SMAAx4 (SMAA with 2x spacial super-sampling and 2x temporal super-sampling) is even more amazing, but temporal SS isn't available on multi-GPU setups so I can't use SMAA T2x or SMAAx4.

For most older games, I just do 4x SSAA, it's a flick of a switch on AMD and looks great.

You haven't fix anything. Name a game that looks better than Infamous SS on PC at 1080p right now. Just 1.

Crysis 3
Far Cry 3
Metro Last Light

Why stop at 1080p?

In terms of what? Texture detail is most likely higher on a PC title like Crysis 3. Polygon count is way higher in games like Crysis 3 and Metro Last Light (or any tesselation-abusing title out there). Reflections are also probably more accurate in Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4. In terms of art direction though, not much is on the same level, particularly not if you limit it to open-world games.

Aesthetics are sort of pointless because a game can be beautiful without being demanding. Trine 2, for example, is amazingly beautiful, but it's a very different art direction and a very different kind of game.

Well said.

Don't forget Shadows and Lighting, HBAO+, FOV?

BF3 with upscaling.
BF4 with 150% SSAA, BF4 with 200% SSAA.
Metro LL.
Crysis 3.
Modded Crysis 1
Modded Skyrim

In my opinion FarCry 3 looks meh and uses FAR too much blurring, to the point it's very distracting.

Because we need to be fair. From the three, Crysis 3 and Metro LL are the best looking ones.

So basically this:

Looks better than this:

At the end of the day, I guess everything is really subjective. A PS4 -> $400. A PC that can run Crysis 3 1080p, 60 fps maxed out -> $1000. I'm just saying.

Yeah, Crysis 2 or 3 implemented penumbra shadows which are infinitely more realistic than perfectly sharp shadows. Crysis 3 also had water caustics and real time volumetric cloud shadows, which are essentially shadows in fog and clouds. Stuff like that is cutting edge and not worth the performance hit so a console developer would exclude stuff like that.

OTOH facial animation in I:SS is at least on the same level as C3 if not better.

I:SS isn't stable 60 FPS, it uses an unlocked frame rate that's usually around 50 FPS so it shouldn't really be a requirement for PC.

I think I must have spent 5 minutes walking around one of the pools of water on an earlier Crysis 3 level.
