Confused [-_-] - Giving away my - ATI 7970, what to get?

Hello guys,

I am about to give my brother SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7970 OC 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16.
He cannot afford new card, and he liks playing games, so, i am a good brother and i am giving it to him as a present.

What card should i get? AMD or Nvidia? Budget is $500-600.

I live in Canada, and mostly i am getting stuff from canadacomputers.com , so, if you can help me decide.

I am playing World of Tanks a lot, and other games too.

I have i7 3930K, 16GB Ram, 2x180GB SSD (RAID0) etc, as my system, not sure if this is needed, but, just in case smile.gif

Thank you!

Obviously will be either 780 or 290 based on that budget.
Look up some reviews for the games that you play and compare them.

If it was me id be getting the 290 or even the 290X for $49 more then your budget.
But I only play BF4 and Thief with mantle at the moment. And Id be sticking my water cooling on it so temps arnt a problem for me.

Well for the price range depending on which brand you want for Nvidia it would be a 780 and a 290x for AMD. Though I would go for a 290x if you want brute performance over a 780 and Mantle and a 780 for Nvidias exclusive features. Either way its not a bad choice.

Either way it stands that save your money on a 290 and still have better than a 780. That's a fact.

R9 290X is not a price/performance card. For the extra money you are paying you don't get a corresponding amount of performance.

i.e. $500-550 r9 290 vs $650-750 R9 290X
