Which R9 290 do I have to buy that unlocks?

I'm looking at this thread and it says that the bios of the 290 has to match these values in order to unlock.
Code:
RA1: F8000005 RA2: F8010000
RB1: F8000005 RB2: F8010000
RC1: F8000005 RC2: F8010000
RD1: F8000005 RD2: F8010000
Code:
RA1: F8000005 RA2: 00000000
RB1: F8000005 RB2: 00000000
RC1: F8000005 RC2: 00000000
RD1: F8000005 RD2: 00000000

There are some used reference 290s selling for $400 on Amazon but I don't know if they unlock or not. How would I go about buying a card that will unlock for certain?

You can always ask the buyer with the used card to check out the cards.
Also prices are dropping fast I bought brand new 290 card for 355US last week, but you can not tell if there un-lockable with new cards.

I would say you might be able to buy a used R9 290 for around 300 or less on ebay and such. You can ask the buyers to check the cards to see if there un-lockable but do not pay 400US for the card when you can get them cheaper today that 400US.

I'm also worried about the reference design not being able to cool the card. I'm seeing a lot of people complain about overheating and whatnot with the reference design. Did you get a reference card?

Copy and paste of a post i just posted.I have R9 290 Tri-X and XFX R9 290 below and guess what at extreme voltages and high overclock the reference XFX has better cooling. Also just to point out the cards with normal clocks and voltage are silent and stay even cooler when gaming.

Not all R9 290 are bad overclockers and some would say like me they overclock better than some 780Ti cards.
I know because I have these cards and the R9 290 cards overclock better than my 780Ti cards.

The cards are on air.If I put my 780Ti cards at the same voltage on air they would blow up and never run again LOL.
Point is the cards for me are fine and run fine on air and extreme voltage on air ,and are perfectly fine for me.
Core clock:1200mhz
Memory clock: 1600mhz

Gaming BF4 for awhile, check out what the temps were. With very high voltage.Even at these crazy volts temps were more than fine for me JMO

No brand or model has a 100% guarantied unlock rate, but i think XFX was one of the best for unlocking if you want to own an XFX...

The MSI gaming r290s come with a dual bios (via a very simple, physical switch atop the card's PCB.)

You'll always have a backup BIOS is anything ****s up.
