Windows XP is supposed to be dead next week. But the Dutch and British governments have both inked deals with Microsoft to continue to keep it on life support, at least for them—under Microsoft’s Custom Support program.

Didn't see that coming. wow. lol...

It probably would have been much cheaper to just upgrade to Windows 7/8.

Hooray! Let's keep our old-arse OS with enough security holes to make it Swiss cheese around for another year! It's only fair. Microsoft never gave any warnings that they were pulling the plug, and they haven't released any new OS since, right? rolleyes.gif

I hate my goverment...

Serously those 30k computers should be updated with this money to a newer version of windows for heaven's sake!

They should release updates once in a while to the general public as well. I mean, they are working on patching it for the government anyways, right?

The problem isn't just updating them to newer windows, they'd have to spend on updating the hardware as well, not to mention training employees to use the new interface. All that sums up to a larger costs.

It has to happen sooner or later. Even if Windows 7 is harder on the hardware it still runs noticeably faster even on slow systems. Most people already work with windows vista or later at home since pcs haven't been shipping with xp for quite some time. The differences are pretty small really.
