are SSD's compatable with MSI mATX intel boards running XP?
If it has SATA connectors and a AHCI option in bios, it will. However, you wont have any TRIM functionality in WinXP.

TOTAL $341.94

Basic build but honestly more than capable for the every day needs I could imagine a parent putting it through. The dual core APU is perfectly capable of web browsing, email, streaming media, media playback and light gaming. I also added an SSHD as opposed to just one or the other. What this does is give you a small SSD portion inside of a conventional 7200 RPM HDD. This offers increased responsiveness and load times but also allows for large storage capacity without killing the bank.

I got a i3 4130 for general usage for a friend and to be honest, it is a big overkill for tasks such as web browsing. It even managed to play CS:GO well on integrated graphics! I wish I saved money for them and got a Pentium or a cheaper AMD APU instead. I then built another PC with a Pentium and it was surprisingly fast still. Any modern Intel Celeron/ AMD A4 will do standard office tasks, like what your parents want, with ease.

Id recomend a FM 1 APU I have built4 or 5 of them and the run like champ anhd I have not spent over 250 apu//mobo/ram/psu hard drive and case they stream very well I have one hook to a 60 inch flat screan

FM1 is badly outdated for any modern HTPC / PC that will be used to view current and future video from media (like blueray) or the Internet. The llano GPU is based on redwood (HD5570 etc) with UVD 2.2.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UVD

Note the features introduced in UVD3 that are missing from 2.2. AMD is now on 4.2 with Kavari and that still falls short of what Haswell/Keplar/Maxwell have support for.

Of course, to make matters worse, CPU performance on llano is comparable to mobile from 4 years ago. Not enough CPU grunt to software decode any of its missing support. Selling someone a llano, or recommending it, at this time, is no different than recommending that someone build a machine with an Stars based AM3 Athlon II and a Radeon HD5550. That's garage sale / thrift store hardware at this point. Probably be able to start pulling stuff like that from dumpsters in a few years. It really is bordering on garbage class.

The op hasn't posted in a while, I'm thinking he probably purchased an SSD and re-installed the os.

I agree if its just an every day pc grab a cheap graphics card, even a gt 210 will do fine and can be found for under 30 bucks some times.

but the 610 can be found for 30 as well http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121641

had the 610 in my school pc, had it overclocked like crazy and managed to play bf3 on 720p decently well.

no intake lol, only 1 top case fan above CPU. I guess it was built for "set it and forget it" when I looked at it, there was hardly any dust in there. I keep offering I have quite a few extra fans.
