I want to prepare to overclock the whole rig in the future. Will 850watt PSU do?

PCPartPicker says that this setup will be 663watts. I was thinking about getting a Corsair CX750M. But I am wondering if I should get a 850 watt for future preparation to potentially overclock the while rig. Possibly the Corsair HX850. I really know nothing about the difference between all of the PSU's other than the watts which is why I decided to ask on here.

I have all the items on this list already ordered. I just need a PSU to drop in my case now.

I'd bet you could get away with just a 750w, but for just a little bit more I would just get the 850w just to be sure. Better safe than sorry. You definitely don't need more then 850w though.

Cooler Master V700 or EVGA SuperNova G2 750 watts would be better options

You guys dont think I need the 850 watt? I just want to make sure I am not starving my rig because I heard that is a quick way to kill it, especially if I was going to overclock it and it was starving

That's not how it works. The amount of power drawn by the components isn't really (okay, it is slightly, but not in the way people think) affected by the power supply. And all the decent ones run in spec even when overloaded, right until the protections decide to cut in and shut them off.

There's plenty between CX750M and the high-end stuff like V700 and G2, if the sticker shock of the latter are scaring you. I'd go with better than CX750M personally. Others have better electrical stability, components quality, build quality, and so on.

For what it's worth, expect actual power draw running a heavy CPU + GPU load, heavier than games, to be well under 500W for those parts before overclocking.

Thank you for the reply mikeaj. So you are saying I do not need anything above 750. That is good because it will save me a little money. I thought CORSAIR was one of the leading PSU companies out there but you think I should look for a better one?

It depends on the model of power supply. The higher end ax and axi series are better, but your going to pay a little more than something comparable. If you find one on sale it could be a deal. There are psu's that are just as good as or better than corsair, but cheaper. Listen to shilka!

^ 550W total draw , no idea why they recommend 850W.

Thank you guys for the replys.

I looked at the Cooler Master V700 and EVGA SuperNova G2 750 Shilka recommended but apparently they will not fit in my case it says.

I was wondering if the Corsair HX750 would be sufficient and of a good quality for my setup then?
