Is it worth switching my AMD Phenom X4 980BE to a AMD FX 9370 - Page 2

If you aren't comfortable oc'ing the CPU, then just throw in a 8350 and be done with it. This way, it's a definite improvement over your 980, where as at 3.5ghz, the 8320 isn't as much of one (again, if you are NOT oc'ing).

I question if a h60 can cool a 9370... I've got whats similar to a H80 on my 9590 and it's within spec by all means, but I don't have much headroom on warmer days. If your temps are in line, your board can handle a 9370 though and I'd recommend it - again if NOT oc'ing. thumb.gif

At least this way, you are guaranteed the speed desired.

Which rev? I have 3.0 and it's a good over-clocker, go back to the stock bios and only change one option at a time. smile.gif

I was thinking of leaving it stock. Just as a reminder my H60 died I am currently using a Antec Kuhler H950 Larger heatsink and Two fans should result in better cooling. Also my mobo is rev 1.0

Ya another vote for the FX-8320 and overclock it.

They are all basically the same chip, just binned differently.

Aww it went back up. My local micro center had the 8320 for 99 bucks for like 3 months. I was trying to talk my buddy into picking one up.

Its 130 now.

i bought my FX-6300 for around 70 bucks + free mobo which i sold for like 40 bucks and got it for total of 30 bucks and i could not be happier ^^.

goodluck on whatever you decide on, FX-8350 is good buy is you can get price and don't want to OC.

have you tried software OC by any chance? there is a lot of good ones out there even from Gigabyte, it might not be the best solution but for minimal increase its more than adequate.

So the 9370 is that bad huh. What a shame. I just don't want the low clock speeds to come around biting me in the ass. I don't really care how much the CPU cost the extra 30 bucks for the 9370 versus the 8350 is not a big deal. I just want more longevity for my motherboard. The 8320 looks like poop to me. Its clocked lower then my current CPU. Not to mention I never said I will over clock the CPU.

The PSU and cooling you have won't work out the best with a 9370. I'd go 8320 and see how far you can get with it.
