280x or 290

With the prices coming down, Im looking at dumping my 2 gtx660 and getting a new card. I run 3 asus 23" with an acer 21" as a aux display. My 660's are only 2gb and the 4gb that the 290 has would be nice to run all 4 displays. Price wise the 280x 3gb looks good also. The main thing I use my pc for is iRacing. Im running a fx8350cpu w/ a 850 psu. Im on air right now, but after i get a new card and case ill be going water, so a hot running card shouldn't sway my decision. Thanks for any input yall have.

290 because its a single GPU and more consistent. Prices on R9 290 have now come down to reasonable levels. Get a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X. has the best custom R9 290 cooler. excellent reviews.

Given that you're considering putting your CPU and GPU under water, you should look into buying one of the cheap R9 290 reference GPUs off Ebay. There are many going for about $300~325+, so if you are for sure getting a waterblock, your best bet is the reference PCBs. A few brands do warranty via serial # instead of an invoice/receipt, so you would still carry warranty (such as MSI).

I'm actually very tempted to switch from my 7950 to a 290, but I'm hoping prices drop a bit more or see if I can make a straight trade with some cash for one.

I once had a triple 1080p Eyefinity setup and have switched to a 1440p 120Hz display with an auxiliary 1080p and a single 7950 is really not good enough to drive them unless you go into low/med settings for modern games. A R9 290/290X is about 1.5x more powerful than the 7950/7970, so it's definitely worth the upgrade to the higher card unless you're considering two 7950s, which is probably still the best perf/price ratio if you're considering spending about $400~500.

Got the 760t case pre-ordered and found a wb for the gpu and cpu. I hope i can sell my 660 cards quick so i can get some water cooling parts heading my way. Thanks again
