Everything I build uses motherboard and sometimes GPU fan speed controls for case fans. Gives a system that is quiet all but under the most extreme loads. With proper case airflow you can have a virtually silent system. First link in sig is how to setup case fan control and second link is how to setup case airflow.

Personally I would forget about using your motherboard for fan control. A real Fan controller is always better. I have the NZXT Sentry 2 and it works pretty well.

Best way to get rid of the noise is watercooling, but Controlling fan noise helps as well. Just not as much under load.

A Real fan controller isn't better then sending power through your motherboard just to feed the fans? Most Motherboards can only handle a few fans anyways. While it really isn't that bad to use the mobo, having direct access to control every channel of a fan controller is nice. And something like my Sentry 2 can auto adjust fan speed based on temp. I have my temp probs pushed into the fins on my rad.

And you will never beat water when it comes to GPU noise at load.

I said controlled by motherboard and GPU, not powered by them.

True, but the cost of water cooling a GPU is very high. Just waterblock, added radiator and fans is well over $150. Accelero 2 & 3 (Arctic), MK-26 (Prolimatech), Peter & Peter 2 (Alpenfohn) / Dracula (Deepcool), etc. do a very good and quiet job for much less money.

How is a Motherboard better then a real fan controller? that's the real question. As I don't see how it ever could be. Especially compared to things like smart fan controllers.

The problem you are harping on about is not an issue.
You need to back off and think mate.
There are other ways to power fans and still use motherboard or VGA to control them.
Use PWM splitter of PWM controlled fan hub. They use PWM signal from CPU fan header or VGA fan header for control and power from PSU.

Swiftech 8-way PWM hub does this for PWM fans

Phanteks PWM fan hub does this for 3-pin fans. At this time Phanteks hub is only available in Enthoo Promo case. They originally planned it's release as an accessory a couple months ago but it's still not out. frown.gif
