what's the better graphics card?

Hey guys,

What's a better substitute for two AMD Radeon HD 7950's?

2x Nvidia Geforce GTX 760's
2x Nvidia Geforce GTX 770's
1 Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 Ti

I'm not sure if I need two cards? Is it beneficial to replace the two HD 7950's with one 780ti? Or is better to have two cards? If so, which one would you choose? I'm a professional artist and use Photoshop and 3ds Max extensively. I've read that if you work with large files then you should look at cards with higher memory interface, memory bandwidth and cuda cores? Also, I have two 27" Dell monitors that I max out to 2560x1440. Which one of these will work best with the two monitor configuration? Thanks, I appreciate the help.

Here are the current specs:

Motherboard: Asus® Maximus V Gene Featuring Lucid Virtu MVP, SupremeFX III Sound, CrossFire and SLI

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 3770K 3.5GHz/3.9GHz Turbo 8MB L3 Cache HD 4000

Processor Cooling: MAINGEAR EPIC 120 Supercooler

Intel® Turbo Boost Advanced Automatic Overclocking

Memory: 16GB Corsair® Dominator™ Platinum DDR3-2133 1.65V (4x4GB)

Graphics and GPGPU Accelerator: 2xAMD® Radeon™ HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 w/Eyefinity

SSD Caching For Faster System Response: 60GB Corsair® Nova 2™ SSD Caching Drive

Hard Drive Bay One: 2TB Western Digital Caviar Black SATA 6G 7200rpm 64MB Cache

Power Supply: 850 Watt Corsair® AX850 80+ Gold Certified Modular Power Supply ROHS

Optical Drive One: 6x Blu-ray Burner/8x Super Multi Combo with playback software

Audio: Asus® SupremeFX III X-Fi THX TrueStudio Pro Premium Audio

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I noticed you have no 290 or 290x in your post smile.gif

Is there a reason why you do not believe in the new Hawaii gpu's power?

Yeah, I forgot to add those cards. What I'm looking for is to replace the two HD 7950's I have. I wan the best card that will give me the absolute best resolution, clarity, as well as speed and performance. Would it be better to replace with two cards such as the gtx 760/770's or one gtx 780 ti or amd r9 290/290x? Thanks.

You'd be better off with one card, a single card will have less performance though but you can add another later and it's got less problems then what multi GPU setups have. I went from two 7950's myself to a 290 and it's about the same general performance stock vs stock.

Well I didn't notice a drop in performance at all really from just playing games, in benchmarks it's a bit different but yeah.

2xGTX760 would actually be a downgrade, 7950 is a stronger card.

If you want to switch brand definately go single 780 Ti.

760 is slower than a 7950. So two 760's would most likely give you worse performance. Two 770's in sli will give you about the same performance in what you have now. 770 vs 7950 really depends on the game. Two 7950's are faster than 780ti. The only worthy upgrade would be two 780 (ti) or two 290 (x) in crossfire.

Two 290's or two 780's would be good too. (better value/money)

But yes, my housemate has a 760 and it was always trailing behind a single 7950. A 770 is a bit better then a 7950, BUT the 7950 overclocks better generally and the 770 only has 2GB of vRAM if that is an issue to you over the 3GB 7950's.

I guess that's what I'm wondering? Because with the 2x HD 7950's I have 6 GB total and the GTX 770's I have 4GB. I wonder if 2 less GB would matter? What do you guys think? But overall, the GTX 770's are better in performance, resolution, and clarity for my 2x 27" monitors at 2560x1440 resolution? Thanks. It's a lot of money and I want to make sure I don't regret it.

Hey Matt,

You think the R9 290/ 290x is a better card than the Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 ti? Thanks
