Hoping to overclock soon, Please Advise!?

I'm looking to overclock my FX8320 from it's stock settings to at least a stable 4.0 GHz, and I don't know how I should best go about this. I was going to get a new cooler as well (hence my posting this here). So, what is recommended as an air cooler for overclocking at least to this level on air cooling? Thank you for any advice.

4GHZ isn't an overclock. That CPU does 4GHZ in turbo mode without changing anything.

Download CPU-Z and have a look. Open CPU-Z and run some programs to stress your CPU while you watch.

Well, I have turbo disabled because I noticed some issues during gameplay in multiple games, but after disabling it, I have had zero issues. The stock is running at 3.5 GHz, and I am really concerned with the voltage, considering my newbishness in this area.

Kinda hard to recommend anything without knowing what it goes into.
We need to know at least:
  • What is your CPU clearance?
  • How tall is your RAM?
  • What VGA do you have?
  • What slot is it in?

Knowing where you live helps us know what coolers are available to you.

4.5-4.6Ghz is pretty common with top air cooling.

That CPU is good to 1.45 volts. Though at that voltage you'll need something better than stock cooling to keep it cool enough to prevent it from shutting down on overheat.

And I would guess you have no idea what was causing your problem while gaming?
Underclocking is like saying to your doctor "My arm hurts when I lift heavy things" and the Doc replying "Then don't lift heavy things". Underclocking really isn't the solution.............
