Overclock i7 3930K

Thread Starter
Hello guys,

I am new to overclocking, but, i would like to overclock my i7 3930K to around 4Ghz or so, if possible.

It is currently running stock speeds.

I have Asus Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard, and Corsair h100i for CPU cooling.

What would be the easiest \ safest way to overclock this a bit?

(Also, do i need to do this)? - Tomorrow i am getting MSI 780ti GAMING Video Card, so, i was thinking maybe (not sure) having my CPU at stock speeds might be a bottleneck for this card?

Also, i have RAID0 with 2x SSD Intel 520 (180GB).

Please advise.

Thank you for your time and helpful responses thumb.gifbiggrin.gif

Also, no your cpu at stock clock will not bottleneck that GPU in any way shape or form.

Thank you for responding and answering my question.

What benefits would i see if i overclock it, then?

I did some google search, but, for some reason i feel safer if i discuss this with you guys.
I know there are so many people on this forum that know what they are talking about, and i trust you guys, please do not mind noob questions. rolleyes.gif

Thank you!

Thank you!
Its basically good if you do actually render alot, or stream games alot. If you do either of those, I would search the forum using the search bar and do a minor overclock.

Sorry, I don't mind noob questions, but when you can seriously use the search bar and find it just as quickly, its kind of annoying. I mean I found it in about 35 seconds of searching in google. Sorry I'm kind of a dick, but it is true.

That I can help you with. What do you on your computer. Like lets say 100% is the total time you spend on your computer, tell me percentage wise everything you do on your computer.

I just did some re-search on the forum, and on google, and i ended up overclocking it to 4.2Ghz

I will do some more tests, after (if possible) some of you guys respond to me, and tell me if i am on the right track, and if i need to make any bigger changes?

My current BIOS settings look like this:

Prime95 (still on going, temps are (highest) 71-73C.

My biggest concern right now is memory settings, timing control, i set it manually (settings i got when i run XMP profile) before overclocking.

Thank you for your time!

I usually only run it for like 20 minutes lol. After 3 hours you should be good for stability. thumb.gif
