8350 Temps on an h80i?

Thread Starter
I have an h80i in push - pull out my exhaust of my case, running at the full 2500 rpm, and at 1.4v / 4.89ghz I'm getting up to 63*C on a cinebench run, which I find is most applicable for gaming temp simulation in a game like BF4 in a short amount of time. (Stability is fine, lets not mention it)

At 1.425 in the bios, (1.387v actual, sometimes 1.395v) I could get 4.6ghz flat, temps are toasty, but were 55* and over.

Now, with it set to 1.45 in the bios, but only delivering 1.4v flat to the CPU when booted (Confirmed in Bios and CPUZ) at 4.almost 4.9ghz (Substantial bump) I am so much hotter. I know voltage increases temps, Ive been overclocking for years, I just find it strange that with this CPU on this cooler, at least for me, it radically changes almost 10* over .015v, albeit, the clockspeed much higher.

Anyone else with this experience with this chip? FX and this 8 core is *relaively* new to me, and thru my 4-6 mo of ownership, it has befuddled me.

*Also, on Idle, like typing this post, (I know idle temps jump around, it gets accurate as its hotter) its around 25*C (21-27)

Yep, the graph of mhz vs voltage is not linear, its like a hockey stick for the FX chips.

Haha I knew it wasnt linear, but jesus, that exponential? Did some actual gaming with a window behind it slightly cracked open (will be like that this summer, anyways) and in Crysis 3 with my OC 7950 I reached a peak of 55* when loading, and more like 45-50 when gaming, and this game uses all 8 cores. Similar story (add a few degrees) on BF4. Being my 2 most intensive games, I call that a relative success.

I added about 100mhz to it, and seemed fine, but, Crysis 3 did crash and seize my system for a few seconds after 20 min of gameplay. I dialed back the OC a bit, only 70mhz, and im running perfectly right now, stress testing as we speak, reaching 63=64*, which isn't a reflection of real world.

Have any reccomendations to get it cooler? New fans perhaps?

Yes better fans,or at least a high RPM exhaust fan. You can also flip your radiator so you are pulling fresh air in.

Yeah, maybe some stronger fans and that will get your core temps down.
But mostly you want to keep the vrms and cpu socket cool. Put a fan on the back of the mobo in the socket and vrm area, and a fan on the vrms on the front side that also aims towards the cpu socket.

My FX 8350 had a Zalman CNP20LQ (Same Asetek design 120mm rad) and with an overclock to 4.4 it only reached around 15 - 20c on idle and topped at 40c under load. 30 - 35c during medium usage.
But then again, my room is pretty cold.

A guy I know from OCN has his 8350 running at 5GHz on air with some Noctua cooler so you should definately be able to OC some more.

The Noctua NH-U14S with two fans is 3C cooler than the H100 at overclocked max loads.
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Noctua/NH-U14S/6.html

The NH-D14 is an even stronger performer than the NH-U14S.
