Don't pay attention to core usage in Task Manager. It always lies. Instead, look at the total usage of the game and see if it's lower than it should be.

with my computer i check for viruses 3 days a week so my computer is squeaky clean. i have unlocked the cores and set my system for performance mode and i still get the lag spikes. i know with mantle and an amd card they have it fixed, but i didn't think i would get the issues with a nvidia graphics card.

It sounds like you need a better CPU cooler. The lag is probably caused by the CPU throttling back to something like 1.5Ghz when the temperature gets too high. I know because I used to be a victim of that sort of lag as well. It was caused by my CPU throttling. However, my cooling was completely fine. The issue was the motherboard I had (Gigabyte 990FXA UD3) could not provide enough current to the CPU to keep it running at max speed. Since your motherboard is pretty good, that would probably mean the CPU cooler is the culprit.

As others have said, that CPU is 100% capable of running BF4 very smoothly.

Also, what is the model of your power supply?

From my experience BF4 should never do that. It balances the load fairly equally amongst all of the cores. I'd think something else is chewing up your cycles or there is a throttling issue.

had the same problem. just mounted a fan to vrm heatsink and BAM i can overclock stable to 5.2

i think its a cooling issue not a power issue as i can run 3dmark bench at 5.4 without throttling
