Some questions about mint

So I'm running Linux Mint 15 from a pendrive.Today,my dad had to download some files and print them.So after I got the file,I was clueless on what to do.The OS didn't detect my HP printer so I planned to copy the files to a CD.After fiddling around with how to do this,I discovered the default burning utility and finally burned them on to a CD.So,obviously,I faced a lot of problems and had some doubts I wanted cleared. Here they are:
1.Why doesn't it detect my printer?
2.Is there any easy way of copy/pasting files onto CDs in Linux? The default K3b kinda intimidates me(I usually don't use CDs,only pendrives)?
3.Where can I find stuff like shortcuts and general info on the handling of the OS in everyday tasks?

Need a little more info here. How are you trying to get Mint to detect your printer? I'm not familiar with Mint specifically, but generally the best way to attach a printer in Linux is via CUPS. A quick Google brought up this result:

You cannot use CDs like pen drives - they're completely different technology. There are more dumbed down CD writer packages than k3b, but to be quite honest with you, it's not going to get an awful lot simpler than k3b already is. That's just how CD technology works.

If you want a pen drive like device then you're really better off just using a pen drive - they cost peanuts these days. Or maybe connect your phone to your PC and copy the files that way, but even that might be a little tricky if it isn't designed to identify itself to the PC as a generic USB removable storage.

Shortcuts are generally application specific, but the generic OS ones are pretty similar in Linux to what they are in Windows.
What sort of things did you have in mind?

Not using Mint is making your brain garbage, really. Its much cleaner and more customizable and the very fact that I'm using an outdated ver.15 is a testamet to how good it is. And I installed this to run away from WinXP, so it makes sense.

QC is poor. There's lots of bugs especially with the Update Packs. There's also bugs with Cinnamon which is their main DE. I think it's easier to use Ubuntu or Debian.

If you say so. But, I think your assumption that I 'don't use it' doesn't make sense. smile.gif

P.S. you can use the dd command to copy the images to the usb flash drive and boot the iso with that. You have to do it exactly (correct) or it won't work properly. smile.gif

Cinnamon has a lot of bugs. But many of them just got squashed along with lots of exciting additions in Cinnamon 2.2

Mint is not garbage at all, stupid statement. LMDE is pretty damn good actually.

I have run every single variant of mint since 13 all the way upto 16 on various hardware and soon mint 17 and other than cinnamon which is new in all honesty .. no bugs, no poor QC. Worked flawlessly and not crashed.

So just to clarify.. Intel mobile, AMD desktop, AMD mobile, AMD GPU, AMD APU and Intel GPU and Nvdia GPU. Different motherboards, monitors, printers, scanners, cdrom, dvdrom and blueray... not a problem.

In the earlier days of mint i had some issues but nothing is perfect out of the box. Even wireless drivers are sorted now.

and advising Ubuntu over mint is just laughable rolleyes.gif

Good for you, then. I don't really care. People have different machines etc. but if one checks the forum, there's lots of breakages so I noticed similar experiences.

I don't think the right approach to helping jaydev with his problem was to trash on a perfectly stable operating system based on a personal opinion, noobee.

I could agree that jaydev might consider upgrading to a newer version of Linux Mint, which may have better peripheral support.
