At this point we allowed it to happen. If this rumor is true then we have dug our own grave.

There's little justification on releasing at such a steep price point for a "midrange" card. frown.gif

All VRAM can be used quite easily. Same goes for Pitcairn/Curaco when looking at AMD. 256-bit bus, 32 ROPs, and either 1GB, 2GB, or 4GB, and all of it can be used with no issue. Of course, Tahiti has the same number of ROPs and a 50% wider bus, so AMD probably deals with the back-end a bit differently.

The 650Ti BOOST edition adds 8 more ROPs, which gives it 24 ROPs and a 192-bit bus. It has 1GB and 2GB variants. The 660s, both vanilla and Ti, also have 24 ROPs and 192-bit buses, and they only have 2GB versions available. I believe some benchmarks have been done, and after the first 1.5GB, memory speed plummets. The remaining VRAM can be used, just not very well. I don't think, however, that anything strays from the "64-bits per 8 ROPs" guideline.

Difference with those cards is that the ROP and bus still work together.

40 is just not divisible into 256 at all.

Right, which I said earlier: either it really is 256-bit and has 8 fewer (32) ROPs than listed, or it does have all 40 ROPs and the bus is 64-bit too narrow (320-bit). The "leak" just doesn't add up.

The only time he was wrong IIRC was when he said that the GTX 680 would be a "new G80", and apparently that was only because he was under the impression that GK100 was not cancelled and that GK104 would be the 660 Ti.
GK104 was supposed to BE the GTX660(non-Ti) it was only the dismal initial performance of the 7970 that allowed nVidia to make it the GTX680. GK110 SHOULD have been a GTX680, and it should have been an MSRP of $499-549.

I'm TRYING to skip maxwell, assuming Denver truly is delayed until Volta/Pascal. I figure tri-sli-titans @ 1300mhz should power through pretty much what ever I need it to, @ near ultra settings well into 2016. If things get hairy in SC i'll just buy a fourth, used, EVGA titan ~500$.

Lets hope AMD isn't dragging their heals this time around. I'm tired of Nvidia having no competition for 6 months @ a time.

Seeing how Nvidia cards follow the names of past famous scientists... and GTX TITAN is named after a moon of Saturn, I'm guessing the next "Titan" will be of the cosmic naming scheme.

GTX EUROPA? lol

Going by the next baddest moon names in the solar system, I can only assume it will be named either one of these four.

I hear ya. My machine is essentially a League/Hearthstone machine, because there just aren't many good games out there on the market right now.

if it brings the price down for ti's, then great. I can't stomach the $200AU markup we have to deal with here.

Atlas is already taken. I believe it is the pet name for the full 15SMX core the 780ti/titan black uses.
