[Various] Socket AM1 "Kabini" APUs - Page 18

is there any review where they use one of this kabinis with a GPU? lie a 560Ti or 6870 or something arround that power?
would like to see the GPU usage just to know how powerfull this cpu are.

i would like to build a PC that allows me to play Starcraft Broodwar/ SC2 / Dota2 / LOL / Counter Strike / Quake / Unreal /
and some other modern games on low settings BF3/BF4

i think this CPU is cabaple of deliverying good FPS on the games above.

Definitely not enough CPU for BF4 under DX11 (there's a chance mantle can make it playable though).

This is the only thing I've found so far. Just scroll all the way down and there's a piss-poor table, but hey, still better than nothing biggrin.gif

Much better off buying a Haswell pentium / celeron for dGPU use.

Probably costs $20-$30 (and I'm not even sure about that much) more or so for CPU + mobo but the performance for games like SC2, dota 2 CS, etc. is on a completely different level compared to Kabini.

I am using A4-5000 x140e Thinkpad right now.

I am playing LoL. The game only scales to two cores so I get alright performance. Maybe 30fps or more in fights and 80fps about when not fighting. But with 8GB of ram I can alt-tab between the game and everything else no problem, which is very nice for something that gets this much battery life. But you're going to be plugged into a wall so that doesn't matter so much to you.

But the game is definitely CPU limited. I get the same FPS at lowest settings as I do on medium, and I am getting a pretty steady 50% CPU usage out of 4 cores (in Windows 100% usage is 100% of all 4 cores).

It should handle Counter Strike pretty easily, and Quake too. Not sure about which Unreal version (UT3?) but BF4 is out of the picture. BF3 might be somewhat playable, I'm not sure though.

I do own SC2 and BF3 but I don't know if I have enough HD space to install it.

thanks your input, but im not giving more money to intel that already is rich, im try to get a light machine
that doesnt pull to much watts from the wall, that allows me to play and at the same time
help this little company call AMD buying stuff from them so they can keep developing things for us and making a big effort to be on the map.

without them we could be screw.

You might want to look at the FM2+ stuff, the Athlon 750k and if you are not overclocking go for the 740 then get something like a 7790/250x. Or you could run a APU.

You still be with AMD, be able to play games and have a lowish powered system.

Since when did multi billion dollar companies become "little"?

Anyway, if you think you need to help a company with 5 billion revenue last year then go ahead but it doesn't change the fact that kabini, bay trail and other low power mobile-first parts make very little sense as dGPU gaming systems.

H81 (1150) or FM2(+) is what you should go with (at least, higher is of course fine as well).

Power consumption differences at these levels are completely irrelevant since you're going to be using a dGPU.

Exactly. I have a "Steambox" (In quotes because it's really just a full PC with wireless mouse and keyboard) connected to the TV in my bedroom, it's a Core 2 Duo E6700 with a 9800GTX+...This would let me have a completely silent rig (Fanless PSU + Passive CPU cooler + SSD) with the full power of my desktop. Best bit is I could even use Linux on it for the best possible experience with it thanks to streaming.

However, that 4x PCIe link would be fine to throw a RAID card in..which honestly, is best for safety with hardware RAID10 or the like.

That's because it's a synthetic benchmark and not a real game. Games typically are heavily GPU limited and while they may not really use 8 cores effectively, a lot can easily use 4. My HD7950 is faster than your R9 270X and it certainly isn't bottlenecked by my FX-4170 compared to my 3570k in most real games...That said, I'd pay that bit extra and go for a cheap Socket 1150 board and a cheap Pentium G3220. It's more expensive ($50 or so using Aussie prices) and uses a bit more power but the difference is more than worth it IMO. If I got one of these for dGPU gaming, it'd only be to use it for that until I got a more expensive rig and if I had a use for the Kabini rig without a dGPU afterwards. (ie. As an upgrade path if I was starting from scratch for something)
