[Various] Socket AM1 "Kabini" APUs - Page 40

Anyone know the mounting hole dimensions on these? I have some old heatpiped northbridge heat sinks I could probably use to cool it passively.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm blind.

Well, I've ran the benchmarks on my 8320 to compare against Kabini. I did both 4M/4C and 2M/4C tests at 2112MHz, I would've ran 272 and 288MHz tests as well to compare with Flank3r's unstable results but my BCLK can't go over 270MHz unless I use a crazy voltage on the Northbridge, so that's scrapped. Here's what I got, pics in spoilers:

And Flank3r's Athlon 5150 overclocking results are here, so you don't have to scroll through the thread or use Google.

Now, there are two differences between my 8320 and Flak3r's 5150. First is the memory, Flak3r has 2112MHz 9-10-10-26 and I got 2112MHz 12-13-12-36 RAM, so my memory sucks. And my IMC is twice as fast since my 8320 doesn't work if NB frequency is lower than memory frequency, just fails to post.

Anyway, one Vishera core is faster than one Kabini core, but Piledriver as architecture is worse than Jaguar (that last one is pretty much expected), at least from what I tested. 4M/4C is also roughly 15% faster than 2M/4C, also expected. The one thing I didn't expect is AIDA64 AES performance, Kabini is quite a bit faster when it comes to encryption, my 8320 would still be slower than Kabini at that clock even with 6 cores enabled. Fast little bugger.

By the way, this thing can actually make for a decent little CPU for casual gaming. I tried playing games with 2M/4C while some of the benchmarks were downloading and to be honest, it was pretty good. FO3 and FNV ran at 60FPS damn near always (Rivet City and Nipton messed that up, low FPS in those parts), Starcraft II was also acceptable (30FPS, not bad), UT 2004 wasn't bad either, even Skyrim ran at an average of 30-45FPS but it stuttered during cell loading and when a lot of AI kicks in.

In games a 2M/4C configuration is a bit slower than my old Core 2 Duo E4500 on stock with DDR2-800, and if that's even similar to how a Kabini would perform in games, it wouldn't be bad at all for something that's $55, cooled effectively with a teeny-tiny cooler and uses less power than my monitor. smile.gif

No problem, I wanted to see how that thing performs against an FX but I missed my chance when I had a Kabini in my hands. It's an impressive little chip, especially since I would have to fire up all four Piledriver modules to outperform it in AES by some 20%. I can honestly say I wasn't expecting that.

I think Puma-based units will be coming out in Q4 2014, Mullins will be the ultra-low power products like that little thing in the video and Beema will be replacing the current AM1 lineup. Presumably, Puma should bring around 25% improvement at a 40% lower TDP (according to AMD, that somehow amounts to double), I'll still wait and see.

But if AMD is actually telling the truth about Beema, the one thing I want is an octa-core Beema on AM1. Eight Puma cores, each running faster than current Kabini cores, with a ~35W TDP and a ~$75 price tag. I think those would sell like hotcakes. smile.gif

people will say that the 1K i7 or the 400 dollar I7 gets 30% better perf. Clearly they can't see how great these little things are for cheap gaming and Alatar please don't say that a dual core pentium is a better choice because with a dual core pentium you will clearly lose more than 30% vs a 1K processor.

A model of these without graphics with beefed up cores for the same price would be such a win but well the extra on chip stuff is not that bad either for when HSA makes it to market.

Anyone here play Diablo 3 on a 5350?
