Safe temps for RAM?

Thread Starter
I have been searching for some time, and can't find any real answer to these questions, so I figure where better to ask, than the beast community at OC.net!

1) What are the safe temps for DDR3?
2) Does speed affect the threshold?
3)Does anyone have any interesting/safe ideas for aftermarket thermal probes for being able to monitor memory temps in real time? (Stopping what I'm doing, to shoot an infrared gun at my sticks just doesn't feel 21st century to me)

Any screenies of Ghetto/Pro temp sensor rigging, would be fun fun and appreciated biggrin.gif

RAM don't get hot. Not at all. Sure, you can probaly feel the warmth of the heatspreaders (if you have that) if you touch it, but that's about as hot as they'll ever get.

Edit:
Under normal circumstances.

RAM can certainly get hot in some situations, but the trend is toward cool running memory. You normally need to pack memory very densely, overvolt it, OC it, and stress it for protracted periods to really get most modern DIMMs hot.

Anyway, very few memory ICs aren't rated for at least 85C, and it's highly unusual to see memory temperatures anywhere near this high in most cases. Some "enthusiast" or OCing memory may be validated at unrealistically low temperatures for their specifications, however.
