Need budget build for BF4 @60fps - Page 12

I'm not necessarily recommending this option, but thought I'd put it out there. There's always a risk with buying used parts, so this would be more of the "adventurous" route. Quite a few people have been able to overclock these Xeons to 4.5 and even 5 GHz.
  • Used 6C/12T Xeon (X5660, X5650, L5639, E5649, etc): ~$120 for the CPU
  • Used X58 board: ~$120 for a good, high-end X58 board
  • 3x2 GB DDR3: around $50-60
  • CM Hyper 212 Evo: $30. Should be able to support a moderate (~3.6-4 GHz) overclock without issues.
  • AMD R9 280x: $300
  • Rosewill Capstone 650W 80+ Gold PSU: $90
  • Case/optical drive/fans: $100
  • 1TB HDD: $50

Total: $860 for a 6-core, 12-thread rig with a 280X smile.gif

Again, more of a build for the adventurous. I'm actually considering building a rig like this myself biggrin.gif

Hello this is the thread starter.

I just watched this video where this guy has a phenonom II x4 965 + GTX 760 playing BF4

at 1:33 he changes the settings to ultra noAA and he gets an average of 60fps.

So wouldn't a FX6300 + GTX 760 be enough?

I just found this video where a guy is using the FX6300 + GTX 760 and he is also getting 60fps on ultra.

I will tell you this. You can do high preset @ 1080P on a GTX 760 and average 60 FPS. And the FX 6300 is more than enough for BF4.

An FX 6300 and GTX 760 is an excellent combination. thumb.gif

It would be more than enough. I would look for something cheaper than a 760 though..maybe if it's on sale, or just get a 270. It'll run it on ultra no problem.

Most of the people on this site rely on benchmarks to come to conclusions, and benchmarks are not a gameplay demonstration. Most quad cores paired with a semi decent card should handle bf4

It'll run Ultra no problem, but I think the OP wants to average 60 FPS. A 270X won't even manage to average 60 FPS @ Ultra on BF4. I had an HD 7870 Ghz Ed (essentially a 270x) before I sold it, and it could handle high settings @ 60 fps average. Ultra pushed it down into the mid 40's, so if you're looking to play Ultra @ 60 FPS average, you probably need something better than a 270x or a 760.

Still, for high settings, all of those cards work great.

Its droping to the 30s with just 3-4 people around. Good overclock on the gpu and cpu probly would fix that.

I disagree with you. the 270x would average close to 60 if not a bit over 60, around mid 50's maybe..
i have a rig with a 270x in it it does not drop into 40's. it hovers in the 50-70 range. it is heavily oced though but i don't think that makes a huge difference. the game is on ultra with 8x AA and 1680x1050 res, multiplayer full server, win 8.1

Ok Guys. I need to bring something up here. This is not the first Build Recommendation thread that the OP has done in the last 2 months. The last one was for basically the same thing but for 30FPS for BF4. Again, no budget was given.

LINK

No offense to the OP, but if you are going to be doing a build then you need to be a bit more serious about this. WE NEED A BUDGET. All this is doing is causing a lot of OT postings about which is better and benchmarks that may or may not be related to the subject at hand. You started a thread 2 months ago for a budget build and apparently never built the computer at that point. Again, you have posted a thread and I wonder if anything will come of it this time too. I understand that things come up and new computer builds can be put on hold. But if you are not even going to supply us with a budget then I , personally, consider you to be trolling the community. To simply say "I need a budget build to play BF4 at 60FPS as cheap as possible." is not enough. I could build you a system that will play BF4 for very cheap, but it won't last a week.

If you are serious about building a computer then make sure you supply the community with all the information. This includes:
BUDGET
BRAND PREFERENCES
LOCATION
NEED OF PERIPHERALS/OS(Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor/Operating system)
COLOR PREFERENCES(Heatsinks, cases and fans come in a variety of colors now)

Without the information above we can not properly help you and the result is what has happened to this thread. 12 pages of mostly crap and disagreements as to what can handle it and what can't with the occasional build thrown in.

I urge my fellow OCN brethren to avoid any and all future Build Recommendation threads unless the minimum of the information I listed above is supplied. I am tired of these kinds of threads that go on for what seems like for ever and nothing is ever resolved or the OP is left even more confused than before.
