Headset Recommendations

Following the template outlined in this post:

  1. State your budget! (Set an absolute maximum or give a relative maximum with + x amount if it will be amazingly better).
    Max $100.
  2. State your music tastes
I will not be listening to music through these as I have a nice (ish) set of speaker that I use for music.
  3. State what perks are highly desirable (low impedance, heavy bass, excellent for gaming etc..)
Not too heavy on the base (sometimes people have poor mics that explode bass).
Ridiculous level of comfort with as light clamping force as possible.
Circumaural (around the ear) but as little noise cancellation as possible.
Preference for any kind of cloth padding as opposed to leather but this isn't that big of a deal to me.
Preference for dual 3.5mm audio jacks (one for the mic) over USB.
    Must have an attached mic.
  4. State what products you already have and are planning on using with your recommended item (state whether you have an amp if you're looking for headphones with high impedance for example)
Currently using motherboard audio but am open to the idea of an external DAC.
  5. State how you are going to use the item (e.g. out-and-about, at the gym, at home, PC / console, gaming, music etc). The more detail in this, the better.
These headphones are used exclusively for voice communication while gaming for extended periods. Game audio is piped to the stereo.
  6. State where you live and offer some sites that are known for having good prices / being reputable so we can help recommend you products in your country's currency (like Amazon or ebay).
I live in Canada and have access to FutureShop, NCIX, Memory Express, Amazon. I can drive to FutureShop or Memory Express but I am willing to ship in headphones if necessary.

Products I have tried thus far: Carcharais, Vengenace 1500, Kraken.
The Carcharias were quite comfortable for extended sessions until they broke, I am having second thoughts about Razers quality. I have RMA'd sooooo many Razer mice lately... The Vengeance and Kraken have WAY too tight of a clamping force to keep them comfortable for very long. The Vengence were USB and had a persistant but fairly quiet squealing noise that became louder as the mic level was adjusted, very strange... Also the reason I mention that I have a preference for 3.5mm over USB headsets.

Check out the Steelseries Siberia V2, my brother has been very happy with those, very comfortable. (I got his at canada computers)

Another good set are the Skullcandy SLYR's however you need a 3.5 mm 4 Pin to 2X3 Pin 3.5 mm Headset Splitter Adapter (I got one for $7 off amazon). Again a very comfortable headset, good audio quality, no issues wearing it for extended periods of time. (I got mine from newegg.ca)

i'm using Corsair Vengeance 1400. they're surprisingly good in terms of sound reproduction (imo). i use them mainly for gaming, as i have a very good set of earphones for listening to music, but the Corsair is not bad at all for music. i'd say it's rather comfortable weight-wise, maybe a tiny bit on the heavy side.

I have actually been eyeing up the Siberia V2's, good to get another endorsement for them. thumb.gif
