What happened with AMD that they've fallen so far behind Intel? - Page 2

Google to buy AMD soon, why do you think they bought moto and then dumped them after getting patents etc. Might think I'm dumb and crazy but it's gonna happen. Find this thread when it does biggrin.gif

The Core 2 series happened. It all began when the top of the line AMD CPU of the time, the AMD FX-62 got its clock cleaned by the Core 2 Duo E6660, which was less than the third of the price of the AMD FX chip. Ever since, AMD has been on the losing side.

They are the prototypical example of why you never stop developing products a decade or so in the future, and why you celebrate success but use the money to further ensure company growth.

AMD had a parking lot full of Porsche's and Ferrari's, and people were chastised if they didn't have AT LEASTa Rolex...

QQuite frankly I find it hilarious when people defend them naively, by saying they're the more "ethical" company. My sister just got her MBA and she said that AMD was used frequently as a "cautionary tale", specifically of how a promising company can even put the best product on the market (the real FX), but mismanagement and hubris can and will prevent that company from ever being anything more than a has been...

I am not in the business field, just relaying what I have heard.

I do recommend doing some real research into the history of the company...

Interesting. I thought the big trip was with bulldozer... Which was TBH, a pretty big flop.

Sounds plausible tho.

By the time you release a flop, you've been setting yourself up for trouble for a long time.
