Although it wouldn't surprise me if AMD ditched the pictarin 7870 core in favor of the tahiti version w/ 1536 sp for the 370X. Probably lots of Tahiti GPU's lying around that didn't make the 7950/7970 cut. Easy money and should sell as it is a decent performance jump over a pictarin.

290X introduced the "Shader Engine"

1 Shader Engine:
- 1 Geometric Processor
- 1 Rasterizer
- 1 to 16 Compute Units (GCN Cores/ 1 CU = 4 sALU/64 vALU)
- 1 to 4 RBEs

So the maximum specification AMD will go for with the R9 390X is:
4 Shader Engines ( like R9 290X)
4 Geometric Processors ( like R9 290X )
4 Rasterizer
64 Compute Units
16 RBEs

390X:
4096 ALUs (64 GCN Cores / 4 Shader Engines) / 256 TMUs / 64 cROPs / 256 zROPs

390X -> 360 is up in the air.

20nm:
390X - 64 GCN Cores (4 SEs) / 256 TMUs / 64 ROPs
390 - 56 GCN Cores (4 SEs) / 224 TMUs / 64 ROPs

28nm:
380X - 44 GCN Cores (4 SEs) / 176 TMUs / 64 ROPs
380 - 40 GCN Cores (4 SEs) / 160 TMUs / 64 ROPs

20nm:
370X - 36 GCN Cores (3 SEs) / 144 TMUs / 48 ROPs
370 - 30 GCN Cores (3 SEs) / 120 TMUs / 48 ROPs

20nm:
360X - 24 GCN Cores (2 SEs) / 96 TMUs / 32 ROPs
360 - 20 GCN Cores (2 SEs) / 80 TMUs / 32 ROPs

20nm:
350X and lower: 16 GCN Cores and less (1 SE) / 64 TMUs and less / 16 ROPs and less

imho.

I'm just going to hold out and see if prices ever balance out again, as there's no point for me to sell them for that much when mid-range GPU with crappy heatsink costs more than that. If the 7970 I currently use dies, I got a backup on hand. thumb.gif

I was going to say this. 7970 is old at this point you shouldn't be paying over 300$ for one, i wouldn't. Hell i sold one of mine for 200$.

Hence my statement in the first post and the rumors & unconfirmed section. Hell even WCCF says take it with a pinch of salt, the fact it's from WCCF should already register as false, much less when they claim it themselves.

The keyword is certain so they may only shift high or low end whatever fares best on each process node accordingly.

This is very interesting none the less because i was beginning to write off that we'd see Pirate islands or Maxwell by 2014. Was thinking Q1 15 though there is no confirmation on either not arriving in 14.

I dont recall any big GPU announcements at Computex the last few years so don't hold your breath. It's more for laptops announcements and other smaller computer hardware.

But I agree, none of this stuff matches up.

Yeah, I know, but seeing as every GCN card that AMD has released has a 256SP difference, I don't see why AMD would change that. I can see AMD still using 28nm Tahiti, or at least a revision of it, for the coming generation (Well, since I said that, a 1536 Tahiti makes a bit more sense). It's cheaper to make 28nm parts (you have the diminishing returns and possible lower yields with 20nm among other things), and as long as the cards perform in their respective tiers while keeping NV in check, I don't see anything wrong with using 28nm. Power consumption is one thing, but I'm pretty sure that isn't a priority for AMD like NV's Maxwell is. AMD's flagship architecture has to be 20nm, though.

Although I won't be in the market for any more graphics cards for a good 2 years, or until 120Hz 4K screens come out (I can't go back to 60Hz ever), I'm still really interested to see what AMD does this time around. It seems like the pattern is AMD has the bigger specs, while NV focuses on optimization and efficiency to get the most out of the least which in turn increases profit margins per card. If that's truly the case, then AMD is going to have to cut back down sometime in the future. It won't be cheap making 768-bit 6GB monster single gpu cards, haha. Lets just hope that their reference cooler doesn't suck this time around. 95C is the ideal temperature my ass tongue.gif

Anyways, these specs are most likely false. How can the 370X have less SPs but more rops and tmus than the 280X, and yet have 5GHz memory? I see the 370X being a 280x/7970 rehash, imo, with the 370 non-x being a 280/7950 rehash. That makes more sense with the pattern AMD is going by recently (push the current gen's cards down one tier to make room for another flagship). Also, since Tahiti's made for a 384-bit bus, that'd have to carry over for the 370/x, seeing as there were leaked specs of the 280x being on a 256bit bus, and that didn't happen. There'd also have to be 6GHz memory for the chips, since the 280/x runs at 6GHz. Then again, the 7970 runs at 5.5GHz, but I can't see the 370X being 5GHz if it's based on Tahiti.

The 380X would make the most sense if it weren't on a 384-bit bus. A 512-bit bus makes much more sense given the specs of the die. 3072 (380X), 2816 (290X), and 2560 (290) are all divisible by 256 SPs, so the 380X could very well be a full-blown hawaii core, with a possible 380 non-x being a 290 or 290x rehash. And if the 380X is based on Hawaii, then it'd have to be on a 512-bit bus. The 6GHz memory would make more sense too, since Hawaii's memory is rated at 6GHz.

The 390X is kind of an oddball, but if AMD kept their word on saying that they'd be using GCN for a while due to it's great scalability, then the specs are wrong. There would either have to be 4352 or 4096 SPs if it's based on GCN. Tahiti's cores are in 256 SP intervals, and Hawaii's cores are in 256 SP intervals, while the 390X specs are not.

Just going off of how GCN has scaled for the past few years, these specs are inline with how GCN's specs will scale this coming generation:

390/X
4096/4352 SPs
240/256 TMUs
128 ROPs
512-bit buswidth
4-8GB VRAM
7GHz Memory

380/X
2816/3072 SPs
176/192 TMUs
64 ROPs
512-bit buswidth
4-8GB VRAM
6GHz Memory

370/X
1792/2048 SPs
112/128 TMUs
32 ROPs
384-bit buswidth
3GB VRAM
6GHz Memory

Heck, these could actually be the specs of the Pirate Islands lineup biggrin.gif

Quoting for speculative truth thumb.gif. I agree with everything you said (and was about to post something similar myself).
