HD 7950 vs GTX 770

Thread Starter
Hey,

I am tempted to sell my GTX 770 to switch for a 7950. I was wondering how well the 7950 is doing against the 770.

My 770 is voltage locked and is unable to go above ~1280MHz (somewhat a good clocker if it wasn't locked). I can get a good +600MHz on the memory too but that didn't make much difference at 1200p.

The 7950 is a sapphire dual-x and is said to be voltage unlocked but not on a 7970 pcd (6+6 pins only).

If I sell the GTX 770 and buy the 7950, I will gain 30$ lol. This is mainly way I am considering this. 4GB is not needed, I bought it in case I wanted to SLI it.

I'm pretty sure the 770 destroys the 7950 is most games. Either way you'd be better off switching to the 7970 ghz ed if you're gonna go from that card and back a generation.

At least switch to a 7970/280x which is more lateral. Have you tried the 337.50 beta driver? Good results with double digit fps gains on a few games.

I'll swap my Powercolor HD 7950 for your GTX 770! tongue.gif

The 770 is better!

edit: also depends a little what VRAM the 770 has, 2gb or 4gb.

The GTX 770 is 4 GB. I can sell it for 370$. I don't game a lot and I just saw another 7950 but at 180$ so I would get 190$ out of this trade.
At the moment, I really have zero interesting game and no much time due to school (ending soon!), just looking for a graphic card until maxwell is out. This is why I was asking, The 7970s or 280xs are nearly 100$ more expensive over the 7950!

7950 competes against the 760

By going to the 7950 it would be a downgrade from the 770. Both will do fine on 1080p though.

The only downgrade I think you should consider, if it is only for the short term, would be the 750 or 750ti (maybe an amd 265) as it would be great for a HTPC once you do upgrade down the road.

HD 7950 @ stock is not that much impressive. But once overclocked it will perform very well, I think in best cases in Nvidia optimized games the difference will be about 10-15% in GTX 770s advantage.

But for the money of course it is a better bang for the buck considering only you will get it for $180. That's for sure. For that kind of money I think I will get it and sell the GTX 770 but that's just me.
