What wireless network adapter is right for me?

Thread Starter
I just completed my first computer build and I'm waiting for parts to come in but I still need a wireless network adapter because my motherboard doesn't have wifi. However I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to this. I went to Best Buy and saw a bunch of N150, N300, N600 etc and this is all Chinese to me. If it helps, I have a Motorola SBV5220 SURFboard cable modem and if I check my wifi status on my laptop under speed it says 72.2Mbps.

Can someone recommend me any adapters or help me understand how to pick one? My computer will be about 5ft from the modem, so if there is a way I can have a wired connection to the modem and still have wifi through the router that will work too. Thanks in advance, I'm a total noob when it comes to magical internet waves tongue.gif

Most wireless routers have a built in four port ethernet switch, meaning you can connect 4 wired devices to it. You can always run an ethernet cable from the PC to the router (always best, but not most convenient), but if you choose to install a WiFi adapter, you must pick which interface you want to connect on.

As far as wireless adapters go, if you're just going to be using the computer to connect directly to the internet and not other devices on the local network like a home server, you should be fine with just a basic N300 wireless USB adapter. I personally recommend Netgear products.
