Microsoft made it an requirement than any metro application from the store must be hard coded to run without elevated privileges for security reasons. If they detect that uac is disabled they will fail to launch.

But I have a good amount of files and folders in that location. Everything pops up as soon as I click on it. Though i'm not using Old New Explorer ether, if that even effects it.

Then it's the Details view. I prefer Medium Icons for general items, and Large or Extra Large for images.

Oh cry me a river, people. It takes about 90 seconds to install these programs, and it takes maybe another 60 to configure them. Good grief.

Not for me. Ok? I gave it about 2 weeks. I had various problems with it that I'm not going to explain because it's not worth anyone's time. I found Windows 7 to be far better for me even with StartIsBack+, Gadgets Revived and Old New Explorer. Ok? lol Geez.

God damn. I knew that this was going to happen if I said anything about going back to Windows 7. Sigh.

Doesn't matter if it takes 90 seconds to install a start menu replacement or something similar. Microsoft should of been smart enough to realize removing something as fundamental as the start menu was absolutely ludicrous.

You shouldn't have to waste even a second for something like that. It should be there from the start.

You shouldn't have to waste even a second for something like that. It should be there from the start.

It has nothing to do with Microsoft being smart. They wanted to try something new that suited touch devices far better. Plus, I can bet you that they are absolutely sick and tired of working with and updating the same old Start Menu and Taskbar environment with the same Explorer.exe pretty much. They had to change eventually. People need change. If you are creating the same damn thing for 20 years, eventually you are going to crack and change EVERYTHING just so that you can get some relief. It's human nature.

However, using is different. When you get used to using something, you don't really like it when it changes. That's the two-edged sword for Microsoft. It sucks, but that's the way it is and now they had better go back to what they had in Windows 7 or else they are going to hurt even more than they did from Windows 8/8.1! I for one will NOT buy the next iteration if it's more of the same crap in their next iteration.

HOWEVER......... even having said all of that, IF YOU THINK IT'S A BIG DEAL TO INSTALL STARTISBACK, GADGETS REVIVED, OLD NEW EXPLORER, OR CLASSIC SHELL OR WHATEVER, then you're just a big baby. I'm sorry, but if I can do it without crying about it, then ANYONE can. Believe me, I am extremely resistant to change man. I have Asperger Syndrome. It's a part of my DNA. lol I mean, damn! If I can switch and be happy with it for almost 2 weeks like I did even though I had to install 3 programs (cry cry cry lol), then anyone can. It wasn't hard, it didn't hurt my ego, it didn't take any more time than it does in Windows 7 to set up all of my settings the way I like them, and it was awesome because I replicated Windows 7 in Windows 8.1 by doing that. So, why the hell should I complain? Oh cry, I had go to download 3 programs and install them. Big freakin' deal. LOL It's not the end of the world. It's not like you have to build a completely new system even though your last one was major overkill for Windows 7! Now that WOULD be a good reason to cry!

So, the ability to make Windows 8 and 8.1 become almost perfectly identical to Windows 7 is there and it's EXTREMELY EASY. So, why I should cry?

It's a computer!

Listen, the next person who tells me that my preference of Windows 7 over Windows 8/8.1 is wrong is going to regret it. I'm not trying to have that kind of a discussion! Y'know?! LOL I mean, really. Come on! I gave it nearly 2 weeks! I live at my computer and I also put 8.1 through its paces for the way I use my computer, and it just didn't deliver 100% while Windows 7 does. Today was the last straw with the slow File Explorer loading again.

I missed a few pages it seems, but jeez. I'm not sure what all the grief is about. It's almost as bad as when people tried to defend Vista. Actually, it IS that bad. God forbid you actually give something a fair trial these days and have opposing opinions of others.
