I got a new case so now I need a new PSU

Thread Starter
I recently got a new case. It's a Fractal Arc Midi R2. My old case was a Coolder Master Stacker 830 SE. The PSU I currently have is a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610. I would love to keep using this PSU, despite the age, but the new case makes it less than ideal. There's too many cables, and the CPU auxiliary cable doesn't reach where it needs to go, and I also cannot hook up the SATA power to my optical drive.

So I'm looking for advice on a new one. Here's the rough criteria I have in mind.

I would like it to be around 600W, give or take.
I would prefer modularity.
I want something that has at least 6 SATA connectors, but ideally I'd want more, since I'm using 6 now. I have no immediate plans for more, but I always like to get more in case.
I'm not too partial to brand, but I like Seasonic-based stuff. I'll admit, I'd love another PC Power & Cooling, and I find Corsair the boring pick, but I recall PC Power & Cooling aren't as good as they used to be, and if Corsair has the best fit for me, I will definitely go with it.
As for price, Let's say ~$120 is my rough maximum. That's about what I spent on this one back in the end of 2007.

Thank you for any help.

Cooler Master released a fully modular V series and a semi modular V series. If you are ok with semi modular, there is the VS650 for ~$100 on Newegg. It has 8 SATA connectors and is 80 plus gold rated. Here is a link for you. I personally have the V850 (full modular version) and I love it.

I am okay with it being semi-modular if the fixed cables are stuff like the 24-pin and CPU auxiliary cables.

Newegg has a fantastic deal on a fully modular Seasonic 760W Platinum PSU for $100 with free shipping (normally $155 - use coupon code: EXLEMC2254) Plus there's a $20 mail-in-rebate.

That's $119.99 with the code applied and $99.99 after mail-in rebate! Fantastic deal!

Get it here.

I have the 660W version and love it. The packaging for this thing is even very nice.biggrin.gif

Hmm. Ok. The V650 appears to have the fixed cables for 24 pin, 4+4 pin CPU and dual 6+2 pin PCI-E. The Corsair HX650 seems to also fit the bill and that only has the 24 pin and 4+4 pin as fixed also for ~$100. Corsair also has their newer RM series (RM650) for about the same price but is instead fully modular. Though a small disclaimer on the RM series, I haven't heard much about them (good nor bad), but the RM650 does have a 4 egg average review on Newegg.

I almost forgot about that deal. If you are able to order the psu today, then I would probably go with this one. Fully modular, Seasonic, and has a bit of extra wattage headroom for the same price you are looking at.

And a 7 year warranty! Plus, this thing has gotten some great reviews across the web. At least the one I bought has gotten great reviews.

Thank you for mentioning that! Do you know how long that code is good for?

I'm not looking to deal with MIRs, but that still seems to be a very attractive option without it. I'll wait to see what other options/opinions arise.

Not sure, but it is certainly working now. I just tested it by adding it to my cart and applying the code. Sorry. I also got mine at a great deal $79.99 after $20 rebate (which I just cashed today)biggrin.gif

By the way, how do you like that case? Been looking at it myself. Also been looking at the Cooler Master 690 III and Corsair Vengeance C70.

Pretty sure the code is only good for 48 hours. It was in today's deals email.
