NBR forums has a decent market place. They have rather knowledgeable user base, more so than OCN specially with laptops. Here on OCN i usually have to crrect people on MXM version. at NBR that isn't the case. I even learned how to do the PLL mod to my acer.

I draw a lot of my experiences from there as well, and often have to inform members here that laptops are indeed capable machines, especially so with sandy bridge and up. First gen i7's are the most fun to overclock though, as the XM series was actually unlocked I believe and can hit 4.0Ghz I believe

I did a little M11x R2 modification like the others at NBR, I might even do it again with my y510p, I just havent willed myself to do it yet lol With selling your old laptop and this investment, your making an excellent value of your money lol

what kind of modification. Also i find it easier to put tape over the screw holes after i unscrew the screw, it make tear down and re-assembly a cinch unless it's a terrible laptop with too many screws ans pieces.

Modified the heatsink, brushed the copper pipes then filed the aluminum portions to be flat as possible. Then added copper mosfet heatsinks to just about everything.

yes sir! tape. when i unscrew a screw i do not remove the screw from the hole, i leave it inside and put tape over it. as you can imagine i rarely have to remember what screws go where since most motherboards have arrows pointing to the holes that require screws.

that heat sink mod would work well with a hole saw and modder's mesh, depending on the laptop and weather it already has air holes.

Well the m11x already had a mesh grill for intake and exhaust so it might not benefit that much from that but I have seen plenty of cases where it dropped temps quite a bit, the early G series Asus laptops did

Yeah that makes sense, and would actually make things much easier. I usually set up a large table or desk and place them in accordance to their locations myself but I like that idea lol

For my next modification I want to take it a bit further and add more copper pipes, im just a little timid when it comes more intrusive mods like that

http://forum.techinferno.com/clevo/3147-%5Bhardware-mod%5D-w110er-12-1-screen-cooling.html

wow, this is only the second time i've seen some one not only find long straight heat pipes but, who was able to bend them too. I'm book marking that for sure.
the only risk you would run in my eyes is breaking the new heat pipe and not the laptop.

For me, i put a second mesh air hole over my NB heat sink, if i or the new owner were to use a cooling bad, boy o boy would that work well.

Yeah, they can be had on ebay. I just have to find which ones are of quality condition.

Sadly, for my model laptop there is no fan control to begin with, so if I create a better heatsink then it would just run lower fans. I guess I woudlnt mind lower dB but, this is OCN after all

I probably wont do it until after the warranty expires and/or have a disposable income. Its cheaper than the other modification I have drummed up, but I am completely dependent on this machine for now until I get something else

http://forum.techinferno.com/clevo/3480-%5Bhardware-mod%5D-w110er-massive-cooling-mod.html

Same one, but more aggressive and completed i think

I would love to get my hands on an W110ER and do this mod as a secondary laptop, same for the 12.1 panel mod

the Acer 5920G has the same problem, Triturbo on NBR just ground out the fan hole and installed a bigger fan of the same or similar ampere rating. it can lower the RPMs all it wants but, it' still pushing more volume that the original smaller fan. smile.gif

EDIT: oh btw.... http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/536084-fan-control-utility.html
