AM1 aftermarkey coolers? - Page 9

Audio out using HDMI works for Linux, haven't tried Windows.
I am using the Linux/Kodi distro OpenELEC, and it works great.
Been running my living room TV for around a year.
My MOBO is ASRock AM1H-ITX with a 19V power brick
Athlon 5350

Using the stock CPU cooler BTW. I was going to upgrade it but it is pretty much silent (set for Silent mode in the BIOS).
I had a 90 microPSU which had a fan before switching to the 19V power brick I have now. That thing was loud as heck.

Audio out on HDMI on Windows (7 , 8, 8.1 & 10 are what I've run) works fine using the same AM!H-ITX mobo, not that I'd have expected otherwise. It's just a shame that the onboard audio is so crappy it's even noticeable how crappy it is when using the S/Pdif out to a receiver. Never thought pre-processing could make such a difference, but using a dedicated sound-card makes a night and day difference.

still running with stock. volume seems OK but i'm just slightly bothered that the Temp sensors are still not working on linux very well, so i can't properly monitor temp... i will just assume it is OK smile.gif

and, i found this page where some person in japan is adapting a lot of common coolers into the AM1 format to run tests on his 5350...

http://www.geocities.jp/hangaya_craft/pcg3/arekore_test_g30.html

it is in japanese (i may translate a few paragraphs later on) and the pics are minuscules, but it may help someone.

I finally managed to get my act together and find time to play with the AM1 socket (Athlon 5350) with an aftermarket cooler. I went with the Reeven Steropes (the "b" version"), which is big, but nice and quiet. With an ambient of about 18C the Athlon sits on about 4 - 6C in idle and about 25C when compiling in Linux (Ubuntu / CentOS) - all the while not being audible when sitting about 40cm away from it.

the last 2 HDD's are being ordered today so that I can start using that raid-controller by Monday. WIll be running a 3x 3tb wd red raid 5, which should do for a while biggrin.gif

@GCB0: I am currently running the AM1M-A, without issues in regards to sensors, I can see GPU, CPU, MB & HDD's via psensor.

I'm pretty new here. smile.gif

I built an AMD AM1 Athlon 5350 system over black friday. Cost for Motherboard, CPU and RAM was around $120 (Canadian dollars).

Added a GELID CPU cooler, a small SSD and a Pico PSU for good mesure.

Mounted everything under the desk in my office.

It runs windows 10 like a champ. I use it as a daily driver instead of turning on my gaming PC just to check emails and stuff. thumb.gif

lol can someone run it naked and then naked with just thermal paste just to see if thermal paste makes a good heatsink?

actually i was wondering what the distance between the 2 heatsink mounting holes?

I think it is something like 13.5cm.

Btw - now running Windows 10 on my 5350 with a Proxy/Firewall running as VM in HyperV - usually about 50% load, but no issues with temps. Also RAID is up and purring along. Have not seen it go above 15C at this point biggrin.gif

Might need to update the pics, but oh well :-p
