"Devil's Canyon" is a 4th Generation Intel Core Processor just like "Haswell" and "Haswell Refresh" while "Broadwell" is a 5th Generation Intel Core Processor. Devil's Canyon is just an overclocker's edition of a fourth-generation Haswell Core processor with better TIM, packaging, etc.

Z97 still supports broadwell right? I never see it written nowadays. But it was announced months ago.

Do you guys think this would be a good time for me to upgrade? I was considering waiting for 14nm, but I realize that's another year off or so, so now I'm not sure. Opinions?

Broadwell is coming in late 2014\early 2015. I would wait smile.gif

Is this bracket for "direct die" cooling?

nevermind: found it in paragraph two of the article tongue.gif pretty cool idea, no more using thermal pads and removing the bracket!

So would Devils Canyon be worth it when it releases? I mean compared to a 4770k? I know its too early to ask without any benchmarks but is there much to be expected from devils canyon? The reason I ask is because im starting off a build next month, well the process of buying the parts, and with the new z97 mobo and this "devils canyon" cpu, I feel like i want to hold out a bit longer.

For next year you will probably see motherboard with 3rd party controller for M.2 port and/OR sata express (as they are not natively supported by current chipset) and then Intel will probably release a new chipset for the next gen chips that will natively support those port rolleyes.gif

On the other hand , im not sure about that , after all these port are handled via PCIe so ......... I dont know lol XD

I also think like that other poster that you could wait for Q4 this year, if you could wait. But an extra factor is that Z97 was announced a while back it will also support Broadwell, so you could factor that in if you must get a new Desktop right now. Only thing is that I rarely hear it in these last week's articles, but they are probably clueless about it or omit mentioning it.
