Then you enjoy playing the game, not the visuals. You're not a PC gamer then.

Since it's a Ubi game we all knew it was likely to be an Nvidia title, but glad to hear confirmation of that smile.gif hopefully it runs nice and smooth on my 780 Ti!

This footage is still not impressive though... the reflections, dynamic lighting, and HBAO+ do look really nice, but alot of the textures look downright pathetic, as do the trees and plants. Even character models look pretty bad...

As far as Nvidia "teaming up", it usually doesn't turn out well but I'm not going to judge yet. AMD tried to help with BF4 but DICE took a huge dump on it and ruined the game for everyone.

I don't know about you, but inconsistent graphics really breaks immersion to me. For example, I was playing the wolf among us today. That game has awful AA. Everytime I noticed it, it broke the immersion. If I play a game that is cohesive in its art style and avoids graphical mishaps, I stop playing a lot later because I don't run into things that remind me that I'm playing a game. I feel more invested. It doesn't have to have the best looking graphics overall, but bad textures, poor frame rate, and aliasing kill a game for me.

Not that I noticed any of this in the youtube video, I was just saying that the argument of "graphics don't matter when there is substance to the game" doesn't apply to me when I want to get fully immersed.

That demo scene is pretty simple vs. the multitude of geometry, materials and light sources a game might have.

Progressive renderings through GPGPU are used currently in the CG industry, but it takes lots of raw power to compute them in time. It is tenths of times faster than with the CPU, but that means that things that would take tenths of hours, now take hours. We are far away from materializing truly photorealistic PBR in real time, in gaming (where we are demanding dozens if not 100s of frames per second).

Ofc when I have PBR in mind and mention that you are lucky to cut rendering time to hours instead of tenths of hours, I have this in mind:

If you want to experience PBR in your system, and what is attainable today, try something like the Luxmark v2 benchmark, which is an OpenCL PB renderer.

I am trying to say, that gaming devs are not "holding us back"...
They are doing the best that reasonably priced modern hardware allows them to do, so that they don't limit their target group to a handful of enthusiasts around the world.

Well, for me a nice story + a nice gameplay (something you cannot judge from a video) is more important. A game can have the best graphics ever, but if the story is boring and non intriguing and the gameplay is very repetitive and lacking, then I'll play for 15 minutes till I get bored of the graphics and that's gonna be it. On the other hand if the game has a nice story and a varied gameplay, no matter how the graphics are I'll play it till the end. I think that's how it should be.

Damn, are you people ever happy with a game? All I am seeing is a bunch of keyboard warriors whining about it.

We were happy with how Crysis 3 looked, and that was a year ago. Many of us are happy with how BF4 and Thief look when maxed out. We're happy with how The Division looks so far too. But overall, many of us just tired of how stagnant the progression of graphics tech has become. We've waited a long time for next-gen visuals, and most of the "next-gen" games being released just aren't, frankly.

Oh man. I love reading comments from people still complaining.

Some people just love to hate.

MGS V GZ is next gen. Killzone SF is next gen. Infamous SS is next gen. The Order 1866 will be next gen. The Witcher 3 will be next gen. If you expect next gen to be real life, then sit down and keep waiting. Or open the window and see your next gen.
