Funnily enough there's more proof of Nvidia offering AMD PhysX than there is of AMD offering Mantle to Nvidia.

With mantle we know that at the moment it is 100% closed, even more so than DirectX. Nothing has been offered to anyone with mantle yet. It doesn't even have any documentation out, no SDKs no nothing. It's strictly AMD only for developers chosen by AMD at the moment.

Who gives a damn.

I personally don't. It's just two companies doing business as usual. Both of them want our money.

But it's fair to correct some misconceptions when they pop up...

Have a feeling this game will be horrible game-play and story wise. Probably will leave it half-finished as so many others.

In that case why does Nvidia disable physx when an AMD card is used as main card?

There is no denying they are doing it on pupose. Actually this point is backed by the modified drivers that make it work as it used to.

Nvidia could apply for Mantle they would just have to write their gpu specific code and reep the cpu benefits it brings.

.

What proof do I need to provide? if almost every game supports both multi GPU technologies at application level and then suddenly nvidia partnered ones support SLI at app level and not crossfire. It's pretty obvious.

And on the physx thing, it shouldn't exist in the first place and who in their right mind would use the competitors proprietary API?

Hey who knows maybe Nvidia accidentally made the game engine not support crossfire? what do they have to benefit from it...

Both NVidia and AMD do this. It's call business.

Well think a little harder and you will find your answer.

How would you feel about AMD paying game developers to use features that can run on Nv hardware for the most part but to deny them the ability to optimize those features?? And the game will also run slower in general because of that.
The only gaming evolved title Nvidia had problem with was Tomb Raider but that was because of their crappy compute performance but they had the opportunity to full optimize the game for their cards.

Since when can mantle run on NV hardware? And in general how many nv titles run crappy on top tier AMD cards? And how do you know Watch Dogs will run crappy on AMD cards?

Wow... that conversation with Thracks, that should be making a lot more noise. That is disgusting on Nvidia's part and there's really no justification for that. Optimizing a game for your product is one thing. Going in and deliberately crippling the game for your competitor's product is completely unethical. Sure seems like AMD does not do that with AMD titles, because in many AMD Gaming Evolved titles, a 680 or 770 will outperform a 7970.

And on the PhysX thing, even if Nvidia did offer it to AMD, you know they'd charge AMD through the nose to use it at a price that would never make sense in any situation.

I don't think it does now but it CAN. Nvidia has to do the work to get it...AMD is by no means prohibiting Nvidia from using it.

Actually NVidia can't use mantle. The only thing that AMD has ever said was that they MIGHT let their competitors use mantle. At present Mantle is locked down.

EDIT:

Tweet from Robert Hallock responding the the question "is mantle open source"
Quote:
@GnrlKhalid No. It is an API for the industry-standard GCN Architecture and its specific ISA, done at the request of game developers.
