[RT] AT&T Delivering Gigabit Internet To North Carolina - Page 2

This is just lip service.:devil-smi  We won't ever see this service on a wide scale here in NC.  The current boss told investors that the new roll out would not affect the bottom at all.

How can you roll out a product such as this and the investment of infrastructure not even be felt?  Oh, I know; it will be a small rollout just for PR purposes.

Or it could be just to keep google out of their backyard in the triangle.  Pretty sad that google can just think of putting in fiber in an area and the incumbent starts upgrading.

Advertised 1 gigabit. Since it's ATT you might get about 20 megs.

Honestly man I think you're right on it with the google thing. Just another giant cockblock for google. This is also a way to keep a monopoly on internet service.

Just holding out hope it will be in the Raleigh-Durham-Cary area instead of up in Wilson, NC like they did with Greenlight.

It's not just Google that they're attempting to block. RST Fiber (a local company) is also bringing gigabit fiber to the Raleigh area.

It's possible that they'd do a "lazy" rollout of the technology, where they only do fiber-to-the-home after a customer has decided to go for the (almost certainly) high cost service. I'd be surprised if they didn't already do fiber to-the-node, so on the scale that AT&T operates on, by-demand last-mile fiber rollout could be a small investment.

Just my 2cents.gif

Gigabit at the switch.. 10MB at your door for the low price of $200 a month.

SWEET!! I really need some alternatives to TWC here. Hope this pans out and hope its decently priced or they have alternative packages like 100mb. Anything to get away from TWC.

What?

Gigabit is standard now, you don't need 10GbE.
