And how does that apply to me anyways, im under 1.4v in OS so im safe, right? Or can we assume the safe voltage is different depending on chip (most likely)?

It is impossible to say for sure b/c Intel did not publish Maximum Recommended Safe Operating Voltages for IB CPUs. They only published Absolute Maximum voltages.

The only thing one can do is note the relationship between Maximum Recommended Safe Operating Voltage and Absolute Maximum Voltage for previous families of CPUs and extrapolate same to IB CPU's (or Haswells).

In previous families, the difference between Absolute Maximum Voltage and Maximum Recommended Safe Operating Voltage was 0,085V. This would give 1.52-0.085=1.435V for IB CPUs but we have already seen that IB's are known to die after a year at 1.4V Vcore, so the actual -and unpublished- figure must have be lower than that.

So, I take it that you have been constantly increasing your VCore from 1.35 originally to 1.42V currently, and you haven't noticed any degradation?

Interesting discussion, I'm running my 3570k at 1.32 v under load on offset 24/7 at 4.4 Ghz. Just wondering what level of LLC people are using when their chips have died in a short space of time?

I'm using medium myself, which is the lowest setting available on my mobo, erring on the side of caution. Could it be the voltage spikes that vdroop is supposed to allow for that causes this early degradation?

Maybe he just kept changing his overclock, thus changing the amount of required voltage...

Mine began degrading at a similar voltage, for what it's worth. I wouldn't recommend anything over 1.3v to be on the safe side, unless you have very good cooling.

I assume you're talking to me (EDIT clearly after looking back you're referring to the OP sorry ) ? I do have very good cooling, I read somewhere that up to 1.35 volts is safe on air, and then somewhere else that up to 1.4 v is safe tongue.gif I decided I could push 1.32 24/7 as I got a much better heatsink recently IBT maxes out at 87 degrees hottest core average across all cores is low 80's 50 passes. I was running at 1.216v (CPUz) at 4.2 for a year and 3 months before that.

As well as the LLC Vdroop voltage spikes which I read about ages ago that put me off using higher levels, I also guess everyone has a different idea of stable? I am 50 passes IBT max 12 hour Prime custom blend and countless hours of Handbrake Folding and gaming stable. Even then I added another notch the other day because I found a WHEA error.

Edit 2: I should also add that I'm using Offset with Speedstep on and all C states enabled.

I'm just interested to hear what levels of LLC people whose chips have degraded were using if there's a common theme, and also how they judged whether there overclock was stable. This is the first time I overclocked a chip and I'm interested to hear as it may effect what I do in the future smile.gif

I run 1.4vcore in bios, which is 1.392 on idle, 1.384 in gaming and 1.376 during 100% load in prime95, I have very good watercooling and I have been running for over 1.5 years. What exactly is making the cpu "degrade" having 1.4vcore despite you have good cooling? I have LLC and vdrop compensation and all that to 100% on my motherboard. I say if you have watercooling and dont run 1.4-1.5 vcore, you dont do it right smile.gif.

Also, to be honest since all chips are different, 1.4vcore is just a number, and hence IS different for all cpus. You still dont answer if its 1.4 in bios, or the actually voltage the motherboard is providing to the cpu (which differ alot, like in my cute case).

I run 1.4vcore in bios, which is 1.392 on idle, 1.384 in gaming and 1.376 during 100% load in prime95, I have very good watercooling and I have been running for over 1.5 years. What exactly is making the cpu "degrade" having 1.4vcore despite you have good cooling? I have LLC and vdrop compensation and all that to 100% on my motherboard. I say if you have watercooling and dont run 1.4-1.5 vcore, you dont do it right smile.gif.

Also, to be honest since all chips are different, 1.4vcore is just a number, and hence IS different for all cpus. You still dont answer if its 1.4 in bios, or the actually voltage the motherboard is providing to the cpu (which differ alot, like in my cute case).

Interesting that you have 100% LLC and are running 1.4 manual voltage and I'm guessing you hjave all the c states disabled to? I would have thought if voltage was going to degrade a chip your settings would be most likely to. No offence intended obviously smile.gif I'm even more interested in what settings the guys whose chips have degraded have been using now..
