And I could go on all day posting how crappy and blurry the Crysis 3's textures look. There you have you're best looking game.

Improvements of TLOU on PS4 http://mp1st.com/2014/04/10/last-us-remastered-comparison-shows-improved-aa-added-details/#.U0dWLPTuLTo

Oh no, random pictures from 1ft away of brush-level environmental assets and random NPCs. If only Crytek actually made the textures of assets used in cutscenes high resolution.....
Oh wait, they do (Click to show)

And besides, those textures you posted of RANDOM art assets are STILL better than the assets used in TLOU "PS4 Ultra edition" for the foreground of cutscenes rolleyes.gif

There's a difference between cherry-picking random textures that weren't supposed to be seen at 1ft away (i.e. the masks of random NPC grunts), and textures that are FORCED to be displayed 1ft away (i.e. environmental stuff it cutscenes). In a cutscene, you have complete control of where the player is looking, and as such, you know which things will be closer to the camera. Those things should be given higher resolution textures/meshes/etc. than things further away - it just makes sense. However, random assets like a bush or a rock that's in a level can only be so high resolution; you need to load a bunch of them into memory at once. Even while I love high resolution stuff, a 40k poly rock with 4k diff/spec/norm would be insanely poor technical design. However, if that rock were to appear 2ft from me in a cutscene, as was predominately featured in said cutscene, then it would make sense.

Seriously, you should check out the amount of work Crytek put into making C3 look as good as it does:
C3 Art Tech by Donzallaz Sousa
C3 Lighting by Donzallaz
Even Ryze, which wasn't even on PC had some amazing new tech go into it, that will make their next PC game look insane:
Rendering tech of Ryze by Nicolas Shultz

(Those are pretty big PDFs, and they're VERY tech heavy)

Random pictures? These guy was the one to analyse a random scene of TLOU in terms of graphics HEAVILY on the first place. Also, I've played Ryse at a friend's house and it doesn''t look nearly as good as Infamous SS, I'm sorry.

- Reflection of the car's light on the head of the guy.
- The rain drop effects.
- The reflection of the tree in the water.
- The details on the character.

The fact that the company that created ISS never put that much of an effort in advertising it's game with all the tech behind it like Crytek did, is a whole different story. It's an amazing looking game. Period.

Looks fine. Nothing super impressive. It looks like a last gen game with high resolution textures. I'm glad I didn't play the PS3 version yet, I'll wait for this one to go on sale or PS+.

No different than tomb raider. I thought tomb raider was a great remaster for the ps4. Lara specifically, looked a lot better. I'm just glad that Sony actually took the time to master the PS3's hardware like how they did for their Uncharted series.

I didn't pick random screenshots. I took the promo video Sony/ND put out to showcase the supposedly "remastered" game. If you wanted a fair comparison, you should have taken a (PC) promo vid of C3 or something and pointed out all the blurry textures, sparsely populated environments and low view distances in that.

Also I never said Ryse looks amazing. It has its moments, but so does every game. I simply said the technology that went into it is amazing, and its true potential will be seen when they make a PC game with CE 3.6+.

If you've not played this game you owe it to yourself to do so, if you have the means that is. I've played some great games in my day at age 35 and this one genuinely stands out above the rest. Naughty Dog brings the total package together. Something rarely seen in the last 10 years.

Certain emotions this game brought to me especially since I'm a father. The Last of Us did it all for me.

so i guess remastered really meant 720@30fps straight convert it to 1080@hopefully60fps...looks like I'll wait for the inevitable GOTY edition on PS3

But seriously, it's no that hard. I chose to pause at 1:10 just for the sake of this analysis, but really, any period works. It also helps to have spent a lot of time working with game engines, reading technical documentation, etc.

1. The rock wall they're leaning against is incredibly blurry; the texture resolution is obviously very low.
2. The rock wall is also very 'flat'; you'll notice that despite it being rock, and it implying that it's a rough surface (moss, etc.), the color variance is very little. This is because there are no 'pockets' in which to create shadows; that means there's no displacement mapping via POM, Tesselation, or geometry. This is most obvious to the right of Ellie, where the supposedly rough and broken segment is actually very smooth. In addition, the vines by Ellie are just part of the texture - not even a 2D plane to give it a sense of depth.
3. The ground on which the giraffes are walking on is extremely 'empty'. The ground textures imply a grassy field; however, the only grass present is in the form of "tall grass". There is no short grass to speak of.
4. In addition, the puddles by the giraffes don't reflect anything. It's just an environmental probe being used.
5. The right-most giraffe walks through very tall grass, and the grass does not react. It's just a 2D sprite without any physics.
6. The grass is uniformly bright. There is obviously no AO applied to it. This goes for the trees, as well. The center-frame tree is particularly bad for this.
7. The buildings in general are extremely low resolution and 'flat'. The left most building is at most a dozen or two poly's. For example, the windows are not actually inset; they are a flat texture applied to a flat plane.
8. The distance shadows are incredibly faint. Firstly, this just isn't realistic, but it also implies that there are very low resolution. In fact, if you skip forward to the last few frames BEFORE the logo shows up, you can see that the furthest away giraffe's shadow has disappeared; it's outside the draw distance.
9. The center tree and the tree on the left of Joel are the same model with a slightly different scaling. Anyone doing any serious design would have at least rotated the tree so it doesn't look EXACTLY the same.

I could go on, but I don't think I need to. Basically, if you posted this on somewhere like Crydev or Polycount, they'd say "good start, but it needs more work".

Also, is it just me, or does the video look incredibly upscaled? There's no way that in-engine bit was actually rendered at 1080p. And it's not a "youtube compression sucks" issue; the text before and after it is still very good.

pointy elbows hair is too short 2/10 would not bang...don't think would bang
