They'll probably adopt the whole, buy the game no sub/micro trans model. I've played the beta and it's fun, it just doesn't feel like a game most people would pay a sub for, I'd say it's worth it even with a sub though, it's like Disney Online.
The day it goes F2P is the day I stop playing it.

i dont see it that way.

any game that has the balls to make it subscription based, makes me not want to play it.

every game that is subscription based has so many issues and they have the guts to ask us to pay them outrageous amounts each month.

i dont mind paying the inital cost to for the game, but what ticks me off the most is when a company tell us to pay $40 for the game, and then pay monthly to keep playing, make the price exceed the worth of the game.

And I am the eact opposite. If an MMORPG cannot stand on subscriptions as the basis for revenue, it's a POS that doesn't deserve any attention from me whatsoever.

MMORPGs that cannot keep a subscription base are so crappy they must exist on microtransaction crap It's garbage if it cannot sustain a subscription base for the servers and additional content.

F2P = FAILED to proceed.

yeah, i understand that point of view, and i would feel the same if the game was good enough.

however, for me personally, there is no game that is good enough for me to end up paying hundreds to keep playing.

it doesnt have to be subscription based.

they can run perfectly fine by only asking for the inital purchase of the game. like how 90$ of the games are that are out there. (Sc2, Diablo, console games, etc etc)

that i dont mind, as long as the game content justifies the price. (unlike how cod ghosts was, that was a huge disapointment)

Playing BF4 and POE now..

The Main Problems in RIFT is their optimization
660 OC, 8GB RAM. i5-3470. 30-60 unstable fps and the enviorment is too dark, the spell effect is missing sometime. I had to restart the game to get back the effect.
I played RIFT for 2 months when it released. 2 years later, they are the same.

they used to have issues with large amounts of players dissapearing, IIRC it was some badly optimized gamebryo? engine that didn't support antialiasing (aside from maybe supersampling), ran pretty badly and then had these issues with only showing a certain amount of players/spell effects, even when there was supposed to be far more - it was very obvious in beta and early launch, but not sure if they fixed those issues.

I can understand that thinking because there are damned few MMORPGs worth sinking even a minute into.

WoW was worth it for me for a while, but is now a failure, IMO.

I believe Widlstar will be worth a subscription for the foreseeable future. For me, if it's not worth a subscription, it's not worth me wasting even a second on.

Sub is not problems, just don't make us pay for the CD-key in the first place.

In asia, MMO (for example: WOW). You can try for free (7days may be) then pay for the sub. You dont have to pay for the Key and Expendsion.

Yes. I am talking about ESO. $60 + Sub? that is totally wrong for me. $30 + sub still okay(FF14)

F2P like Rift is the best for MMO atm..

And for me, the fact that Rift is F2P means I wouldn't even give it a chance.

Different people have different tastes. My game time is limited and I willonly ever play one MMORPG, so it must be worth paying for the up front cost(Wildstar comes with first month at no cost) and then must be worth $0.50/day to play or I won't even give it a chance.

F2P = FAILED to proceed.

I understand your logic, and that's how F2P started, games that were failing and found a new way to survive. Don't let that fool you though, it's a perfectly valid, and is most cases even more lucrative than a subscription model. There are several AAA titles being developed with being F2P as their goal and they never intend to be sub based. RIFT, like a few other F2P games is very high quality, and I think you're letting old stigmas cloud your judgment. If you liked how WoW used to be, then check out RIFT, it's a lot like WoW, just prettier and with less face rolling.

Being F2P used to be the same as waving a giant flag around saying "we suck and couldn't hang with the big boys". But that is no longer the case.
