5th Annual BOINC Pentathlon - May 5th - 19th, 2014

Thread Starter

Hello fellow Folders,

I come to you to seek your help in making OCN one of the best boinc teams currently available. As the folders have the chimp challenge we have something called a Pentathlon. In this Pentathlon just like they would in ancient greece we'll be running 5 different disciplines. This means within 2 weeks the participants will crunch 5 different projects, each for 5 days. You may be thinking 5 projects x 5 days is 25 total days well your right but not for the pentathlon. Projects intersect so while we are crunching on one another begins and we have to communicate with everyone who needs to switch so we can still get points for one while working on the other at the same time.

Every discipline will run for 5 days and is going to be announced 5 days before it will start, therefore no team will know the entire sequence of the Pentathlon right from the beginning!

The team achieving the most points in all disciplines will win the BOINC Pentathlon. But of course there will also be a winner chosen for each single discipline. Lets make OCN be named as the winner in each project and join us!

All you need to do is go to the event thread in the boinc section and sign up. Of course you'll need to install boinc and let it run for a couple hours to allow boincstats to produce a CPID which is like a passkey for folding. Once you get your CPID then you may click on sign up on the boinc thread which allows us to put you in for prizes and track your points. We require members to sign up each event we host, it takes 30 seconds to fill it out.

To find your CPID aka Cross Project IDentifier you'll find it by going to boincstats.com and searching for your name. Its the first row in the Overview tab. Since your in there you may copy the USER ID and add into your Profile here on OCN. This will set you up with a BOINC Postbit.

EX: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/user/detail/2550185/overview

GPU projects have always been where to get the bigger points but during the pentathlon we will come across CPU projects as well. If you wish to come over and help out on a GPU or CPU we would appreciate your assistance.

If you need any help come over and post a thread and we'll help you as much as possible. Cut off date to sign up will be May 4 so make sure you get your name in there even if your not sure youll make it.

As TechCrazy mentioned it's CPU projects as well as one GPU project discipline: in fact it's mainly CPU projects.

In fact the marathon discipline is a CPU project (runs for the full duration of the event).

2010: Einstein, FreeHAL, Rosetta , Milkyway, Collatz
OCN 21st in 2011: WCG, PG, QMC, Rosetta, yoyo
OCN 10th in 2012: Rosetta , Collatz , WCG , yoyo , QMC
OCN 7th in 2013: SIMAP:, WCG, Einstein, yoyo, Asteroids

OCN 2014: ???? <--- needs everyone with a free CPU tongue.gif

This is why it is important for us to get as many CPU crunchers as possible. wink.gif

Thanks for your attention.

:specool:  Dont forget to sign up in our main thread, have boinc installed and have it running a few hours before hand so you can iron out any problems.

I can throw my 6386SE 4p at this if we're looking for CPU juice. Just need to get all set up. thumb.gif
