Sapphire 7950 Dual X Crossfire

Hey guys,

I was waiting patiently for the GTX 800 series, but from the leak I read the other day it sounds like Nvidia is going to follow the same process they did with a GTX 680 so instead of waiting for the card I decided to get something for now until Nvidia releases 880Ti or whatever it's going to be called.

I found a good deal on 2 Sapphire Dual X cards for $350. What do you think? Is this a good setup for 1440p to hold me till the latest n greatest?

I currently have 2 X-Star monitors. Would these cards in CF be enough to run most games at their native 1440p resolution.

I checked the reviews for when the cards first came out and they didn't look that impressive, but I figured drivers would have matured by now. So if you're running 7950 CF, can you please chime in and share your experience. What type of performance you're getting, temp, heat, noise, and etc. ? That would be very helpful.

I noticed the card has 2 DVI sockets. One is listed as Dual link and the other single DVI. I have 2 monitors that run at 1440p and require dual link DVI. Will this support my two monitors? Or can I connect each monitor to a different card via dual link DVI and run them in CF that way?

It's a strong set up. I have been running the same 7950 crossfire setup that you described and it is pretty good, and that's a really good deal on them. I have been able to push 144 fps on just about everything I play(I have an Asus VG248QE 144hz monitor). Be aware, though. Sapphire warranty does not cover second party users and you know those 7950s have probably been mining for the last 6 months.

Thanks.

What about connecting each monitor to a different card. Can I still run them in CF like that? I have 2 1440p monitors.

No, both monitors must be connected to the primary card.

But yes, I agree. I'm at 2560x1600 with two reference 7950's. Nothing out there I can't max out. I do need to work on my overclocks, all my equipment is at stock right now. I have three 7950's, but my board only supports 2 frown.gif.

hmm I really don't know. I have my Asus monitor hooked up to the dual link and my auxiliary acer monitor connected to the single link. You could use Display Port for you second 1440p monitor and Dual link DVI for the other one. That's if your monitors support display port, of course.

Damn.

That means I can't use those cards.

I have 2 Korean monitors (X-Star) and they only have DVI-D connections. The cards have 2 DVI connectors, but only one of them is dual link.

Get a display port to DVI-D adapter with them. Make sure it's a dual link DVI adapter though, single link, you'll be stuck to 1280x800 resolution.

I believe I need a active adapter. I was able to find one on newwegg but it was $90. I may as well get a 290 or a 290x to hold me over and not worry about an adapyter.
