Damaged my new ram while opening it.

I cut the package open with scissors and I accidentally damaged the tip of my ram. I installed and the pc turns on fine. In a moment I'm doing a men test. Is everything okay?

If the damage did not hit any tracers on the PCB, or the gold teeth, or the chips, you'll be fine.

Yeah if all you did was cut a little bit of the board without hitting any actual components you'll be fine, really.

i had a 4870 that was missing a chunk of its PCB and still worked (seller poorly packed it so it bounced around while in transit).
as mentioned above as long as the main stuff is unharmed ur fine

This is the exact thing I worry about every time I open new ram, sounds like you should be fine though

if you are dealing with computer components always make sure to take your time. 1 bad slip due to no patience will lead to a lot of stress later mad.gif

anyways like others said it's mostly some unnecessary part of the PCB so run memtest and if it's good you should be fine
Just to make safe just use your PC like you normally would and check for blue screen if no crashes or anything ur gonna be fine.

Thanks for the good advice everyone. I was too impatient that day so I did not even look where I was cutting lol. Memtest passed so I'll listen to the reassurance from you guys and use it until it lasts.

Use scissors with a pivot point closer to the tip than the handles because they give more leverage. Surgical scissors are like that, as are Dick-Van-Patten-endorsed DuraShears, which a lot of paramedics and nurses use (can cut through coins).
