While lack the knowledge to answer your question directly, I can refer you to some light excellent reading here on overclock.net. Check this thread:
I am glad I saw and read your thread because, I've been evaluating the 990FXA chipset boards. These are much more costly than the 970 chipset boards so, your post will cause me to do some serious thinking.
You will want to pay attention to the links in the blue font he has placed at the bottom of his post. That is, this information:
Forum Rules (TOS) - Professionalism Initiative - News & info | New members - Marketplace
Good reads | What is HSA - VRM & MOSFET info - AMD VRM database - What unlocks? - CPU/NB/RAM multipliers chart
Optimizing Firefox - Awesome Add-On
Reading this material will take time but, it will also help you understand the comments and criticisms he makes in the thread.
The red flag for the Gigabyte board you are interested in is the revision level of the board. It does not appear to as current ans three other 970 chipset boards. (the -D3, -DS3, -UD3). These boards have been upgraded to Rev. 3.0.
