Is my GTX 570 dieing?

Thread Starter
I have a PNY GTX 570 that I believe is going out. When I boot up there are slight lines in the bios boot screen, but when it goes to windows loading there are white lines all over the screen. Then it blue screens and takes me to the safe mode prompt also with white lines everywhere. It will not start in normal mode only safe mode and when the desktop loads it also has white horizontal lines everywhere. When you move the mouse the lines move around it. I pulled out my old 8800gt and installed it and my computer works fine again. Also, I tried different drivers on the GTX 570, but no luck. Am I correct in my assumption that my GTX 570 is going out? Is there anything I can do to fix my GTX 570? If it is a brick I don't mind striping it apart to correct a problem. Thanks in advance for any help!! thumb.gif

Try flashing a new BIOS.

You could also try baking it in an oven... No, seriously, it's a tried as true technique for fixing dying GPUs!

(Guide is a bit old, there may be a newer one around here somewhere...)

Thank you for the response. So it would seem you think it is the card too; biased on the baking recommendation. I will probably try that since the card is trash anyway. Since everything works fine with the old card installed could the bios be the problem? I ask b/c you mentioned flashing my bios. Also, I was thinking about getting a 760. I mainly play bf3 & bf4, would the 760 be a good upgrade? And which version is best for max settings?

You tried different drivers and a different GPU, so that pretty much narrows it down to a GPU hardware problem. The BIOS probably isn't the problem, but you don't have much to lose... baking the card is much more likely to work.

If you can't fix your 570, IMHO now is a good time to pick up a mid-range AMD card. They're good at BF4, and prices are dropping fast since miners are starting to sell. I'm seeing R9 280Xs going for less than $275, 7950s going for ~$200, and R9 290s going for ~$350 or less.

The GTX 760, however, is still a good buy. Out of curiosity, are you willing to buy a used GPU?
