Best surround sound Headset / Speaker for PC 3D vision gaming? - Page 2

It would be best if you could audition the AD700X, the lack of bass is a big turn off for some.

As for speakers... M-Audio AV40?
All the 4.1 and 5.1 PC-speakers I have used (fps1500, X530, etc.) were pretty horrible, and it was impossible to set them up correctly to the rooms.

Mobo soundcards are almost always glorified Realteks. I wait for the day when Asus gives a Xonar DG with their mobos.
As for what gears I use (Click to show)
Behringer B3031A (~500$) - 2.0 speakers that are heavy as sin.

Hifiman HE-400 (300$) - Planar Magnetic headphones, still under break-in (~30h of 150h done).

Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80ohm (150$) - The headphones that I have used the most, immersion (=bass) is great for gaming but accuracy suffers a bit from it.

Superlux HD681Evo (~30$) - Headphones that are better than the MMX2. Headband was a little uncomfy so I replaced it. Pretty good for gaming.

Beyerdynamic MMX2 (45$) - ~80$ headset, I only paid 45$ but it's definitely not worth the 80$. Supra-aural design makes me mad.

And a 100$ "true" 5.1 headset (Tritton) that I see as the worst buy of the decade (even though I only paid 60$ for it).

Hehe, don't worry, the lack of bass in AD700X is now taken care of in the new headphones ADG1. It has low-medium end bass so it won't blow you away, it just has a NORMAL bass for all needs. I saw some reviews and people say bass is matched perfectly.

For the speakers, are they good for gaming? Was my choice of logitech a bad one?

For speakers it depends on what you play.
My speakers are set up around my TV (xbox360, ps3 and PC/Wii emulator are connected to it). So I only use speakers when I play "console games" where surround is not really needed.
If I need surround sound (FPS games) I'll just use one of my headphones.

Now, I think I'll go test how the HE-400 fares in Dead Space biggrin.gif

I'd guess any 5.1 set would be good for competitive gaming, a quality 2.1 set (Klipsh ProMedias?) would be better for other games and general use.

I was talking about speakers tongue.gif

A Creative Z or Zx would do nicely, as I mentioned. Avoid the Phoebus, it's overpriced.

EDIT: Also, isn't Black Friday like 6 months away? If you have that much time, you should periodically check Cragslist and Amazon for cheap used stuff, as that gives you the best deals. Maybe you could find some nicer Phillips X1s or AKG Q701s for the price of BF AD700s by then.

Well, i know BF is far, i can wait that's no problem. I will not game with speakers as i said - i will be using my headphones. I just need them for music, movies and that kind of stuff. I just don't want something crap that's all. Maybe M-Audio AV40 would do well.

Yup, i will use creative ZX sound card with the microphone, look like the module makes problems...
For the speakers, i would go with the M-Audio AV40 and for the headphones, hopefully the price drops till BF, i will use ATH-ADG1.

thx a whole lot guys! thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif
