Headphones Recommendation

Thread Starter
I've been rocking some Audio-Technica ATH-AD700's for a couple years now. I absolutely love the comfort and the sound quality. What I don't love is the fact that they mess up my hair. An hour of wearing these makes it look like a hippo sat on my head. Therefore, I'm looking to buy something new, but using these has left me with very specific tastes. Is anyone aware of any headphones that fit the following criteria?

1. Open-Air.
2. Cloth pads, as opposed to the faux leather that most headphones use.
3. Comfortable and light.
4. Good sound quality.
5. A bit at the top that adjusts to your head, instead of being stationary. Preferably a full strap, unlike the 'wings' on the AT's that mess up my hair.

Thus far, I've only been able to find these two. I may grab one or the other, but with the giant price difference, surely there are other options in between? Any recommendations are appreciated.

I can only imagine what your head would look like if a hippo sat on it... Mine only gives me a mowhawk. Those Pioneers look like a serious downgrade to me, though.

Fidelio X1.

The AKG headphone is great, but I feel you would want an amp for those.

The X1's are very efficient and don't really need an amp.

I think the X1's check all your requirements.

Yeah, but Fidelio X1 is even more expensive.

AKG K612 is slightly cheaper than Q701 and should be largely (not exactly) similar. Some of the cheaper models like K240 Studio, K241, K242, K271, K272, etc. generally sound worse than ATH-AD700. There are some Superlux with this I think, but that would also be a downgrade.

Also, how's a suspension mechanism on the headband mess up hair less than a normal manual adjustment headband? And how is having a headband okay at all? Are kind of semi-closed in-ear monitors not an option?

The X1's are only about $30.00 more than the Q 701's, and they're a bit more of a balanced headphone. Not only are they good for games, they are good for music and movies.
Worth the extra $30.00 over the Q 701 IMO.

hanzy: $200 is about my limit, but if the X1's are noticeably better, I'll add them to my shortlist.

All of my requirements are for comfort, more than to address the hair issue. I assume getting a full strap will help with that, since the AD700's 'wings' are what leave the giant dents in my head.

I'd check out the less expensive AKG models, but they look to have the faux leather pads. Do you know if they sell cloth/velvet/velour ones separately?
