So we missed a category to vote on for the pentathlon and that is Showbag. This category allows us to pick a project that doesnt break the rules below. If anyone could post some projects that we could use that would be appreciated.

RULES:

  • Were chosen in last year's Pentathlon (SIMAP, World Community Grid, Einstein@Home, yoyo@home, Asteroids@Home)
  • Can't provide a sufficient number of workunits
  • Support just a few operating systems
  • Use a buggy application
  • Don't offer the creation of new accounts
  • Don't support WebRPC

Does Showbag include the projects that could be chosen in the other disciplines? It isn't clarified on the Pentathlon site.

I didn't see POEM@Home on there regardless so that's my pick.

edit: The POEM++ GPU application is supposedly smoothed out by then. (as per http://boinc.fzk.de/poem/forum_thread.php?id=1034&sort_style=&start=60)

All projects which don't break the rules are eligible including GPU projects and projects that are listed for the other disciplines.

If POEM has GPU WU's then it could be a viable project for the Showbag category, but given POEM's history, with GPU WU shortages, it may not be the best project to hammer with all the teams in the Pentathlon.  It is also quite heavy on the CPU side, so the Marathon project would take a hit during the 5 days of Showbag, if POEM is selected.

My pick for the Showbag category is: Collatz Conjecture.

Collatz seems to be popular with the majority of the team and it has apps that can run on all platforms, so everyone can contribute regardless of the hardware they are running.

Bumping this for more ideas.  We have to submit our team registration on the 27th, so if anyone has any projects that they like to run or think would be good for our team post 'em up. :thumb:

Well, Collatz is good for points and is fairly reliable... e0n is good as well and easy to run...

Soo, doesn't it matter if it's CPU or GPU?

Convector would possibly work as well... e0n and edges and others limit the amount of WU's sent to any system, so that could be an advantage...

All projects that don't break the rules are eligible.  I contacted Seti.Germany (Pentathlon hosts) about GPU projects, and they said that GPU projects are eligible for the Showbag category.
