Firestrike run at 1476Mhz/1978Mhz @ 1.370mv got a max temp of 51c!. That's ridiculously good for the price IMO, if i were you, i would be going that route instead of going through all the hassle, and still getting high temps on air.

Yes, I fully understand water cooling is an option, but it's way too expensive. An extra £50 for the Corsair H55 and £30 for the water block and more for the heatsinks comes close to £100. It's money I am not willing to spend on a GPU. Heck, for £100 more I could buy another one and crossfire them.

I am not bothered about OCing anymore that I have done (1000/1400), I just want to reduce that noise.

lol, the money for the GPU block alone is 49% more than a Corsair H55 + NZXT Kraken G10 + Ramsinks tongue.gif. I definitely like the way custom loops look like, and i was planning to do one for myself, but it was going to sum up to 850$+ for everything i needed for the same cooling performance i have now (or slightly better)... AIO coolers on GPU's are perfectly fine, they might not look as mouth watering as a custom loop would, but if done properly, they offer equal performance for GPU's. I'll still go with a custom loop in future, but that's probably when i get Maxwell GPU's (something worth it)

OP could still use the first link, it allows you to plug the fans straight into the card thumb.gif
post #26 of 27
@OP:
you know, i've been looking at your case specs.... and its possible the whole issue is caused by the setup...

You have opted for "low-noise" case fans... however, it is entire possible they just do not provide enough "fresh" air flow-through the case
add to that the side-panel fan.. which has a tendency to A: disrupt "front to back" airflow & B: allows noise to leak out (just where your GPU sits),...
add to that the design of the Vapour-X, with the tendency to re-circulate/re-use air...

the result might very well be that it runs loud, because it runs hot
having the case fans revved up to "pump" more fresh air into the case might actually lower the speed/noise of the GPU
I suggest to experiment a bit with the "big picture"

During some experimenting I've set the side panel fan to exhaust & gone creative with some cardboard ducting to make sure only "fresh" outside air reaches the GPU,
the "hot" air expelled from the 690 gets dumped into the case, but most of that goes out through the sidepanel fan (the rest through the rear fan).... it made a 10°C difference compared to the "classic" setup

OK. I got a reply from Sapphire about the specs of the 92mm GPU fans and here they are:
